Volante is an evocative name where Aston Martin is concerned, drop tops with that moniker stretching back to the early DB cars. Think how many DB7 and DB9 Volantes are still on the roads also.
Therefore the first Volante of Aston's second century is a pretty big deal. While Aston has already released images of a
DB11 Volante
before now, this is the first opportunity to see the car without it having been preened and prepped beforehand.
Key details? Well it's clearly a fabric-roofed car, no bad thing given the additional weight a metal lid would bring to an already chunky kerbweight. It's hardly like new fabric roofs are terribly unrefined either. Interestingly too it's still carrying some very strange bodywork around the rear haunches, Aston still presumably working out just how to manage airflow as effectively as with the Coupe's C-pillar and rear vent arrangement. Note with this car a small rear lip, suggesting perhaps a raised or fixed spoiler for the Volante.
Beyond that there's very little to tell of this black prototype. We're intrigued by whatever the GT12-alike is testing with the DB11 though. Expect the Volante to be identical powertrain-wise to the DB11 Coupe, with both a heavier kerbweight and pricetag. More details soon!
