Description
The 328 GTS model, together with the fixed roof 328 GTB, were the final developments of the normally aspirated transverse V8 engine 2-seat series. The 328 figures in the model title referred to the total cubic capacity of the engine, 3.2 litres, and 8 for the number of cylinders. The new model was introduced at the 1985 Frankfurt Salon alongside the Mondial 3.2 series.
Essentially the new model was a revised and updated version of the 308, albeit with various changes to the 3-litre engine. Stylistically the 328 model stayed very true to its predecessor's iconic 70's silhouette. The most notable change being a small roof spoiler just aft of the driver. Subtle changes were also made to soften the wedge profile such as moulded bumpers and a more petite front grill. In conjunction with the 328's exterior the car's interior benefitted from more supportive seats and an overall superior build quality throughout.
The motorcar shown here was delivered new and first registered on 17th June 1988 by Graypaul Ferrari Leicester, to a Mr Charles Barnes of London. Ordered in the classic colourway of Rosso 300/9 over Crema leather, our car was also optioned with the following; air conditioning, leather dashboard and colour coded rear bumper. In 1988 there was a five year waiting list for the 328 and such was the demand, that examples changed hands for substantial premiums. A letter in the cars history file from Bramley Motor Cars states that whilst this 328 was ordered by Mr Barnes, he never registered the car and it was sold to a Mr Miller almost immediately. The car would change hands several more times always through Ferrari main dealers and specialists. In 2013 DK Engineering had the great pleasure of supplying this car to the previous owner, it has since been well maintained by marque specialists.
Due to the continued popularity of the Ferrari 328, it can be difficult to find examples with a strong maintenance history, this is happily not the case with this example. Serviced by a mix of Ferrari main dealers and respected specialists, the file and original service book show no less than 22 entries. The car will also be subject to a service by ourselves as part of any sale.
Have covered just 30,300 miles from new and ever in demand, the Ferrari 328 represents a generally highly reliable means of classic Ferrari ownership combined with low build numbers. Beautifully presented and mechanically well sorted, this example would grace any stable of prancing horses or be well suited for regular use on the road.
