Description

I am moving from a rural to city setting in January so will no longer have access to convenient storage for my ur coupe quattro turbo. If I can effect a sale before Christmas I will accept a fair offer. I currently live and work in Northern Ireland.
The car is an alpine white, model year 86 WR (registered Dec 85 and still on original plate) with only two previous owners. Original owner 4 years, next owner 16 years and myself 11 years. 86,000 miles.
The car has always been in a dry garage at my home and is SORN since late 2011. Attached are some pics from the last time I had the car out for a drive. The only differences now are that the mud flaps are gone and the car has had the original striping restored. Knowing I was not going to be using it I drained the engine of oil and coolant. These have been replenished and the car starts and runs perfectly.
I have all previous MOT certificates (bar one) and receipts for all the expenditure I made. The car's rare black leather interior is in superb condition and completely original. The floor mats are the actual mats that came with the car in Dec 1985. The full Ronal spare wheel has a partially worn Pirelli from the original set. All other Ronals have been completely refurbished.
I purchased the car in December 2005. At the seller’s request it was inspected by the late great Phil Payne who valued it at £7,500. In parts alone I have spent as much again throughout my ownership – all receipts available. In the intervening 11-year period the selling price of good ur-quattro appears to have soared.
In my time the suspension was treated to a complete nut and bolt rebuild. If you can think of a suspension component on the car (including both sub-frames) then it has been replaced. All brake components too including all lines, calipers, discs, hoses, brake proportioning valve. Clutch, turbo, cylinder head, radiators, oil pump, intercooler, exhaust manifold, cam-belt and all pulleys, water pump, all main hoses and pipes, aux belts, plugs, leads, rotor arm, distributor cap (and body), coil, starter motor, radiator cowling, etc. Everything electrical works bar the heated seats which never did so they may be a simple fix – I never tried. Most of this work was not strictly speaking required, as the car had always been well looked after and never thrashed, but got replaced as part of a labour-of-love for several years. All OE parts were sourced from John at South Hereford Audi and Pete at quattro corner. Much of the work was done by myself, some by Pete Berry (White Cottage quattros) and the head was reconditioned by a local NI quattro expert.
The car has driven only a few thousand miles in my ownership. The digital dash and voice are in full working order. The car has never been hit or damaged in any way to the best of my knowledge and it is a truly straight and beautiful example; one of the best examples around of an original WR (and that's not just my opinion).
The only part of the car I haven’t had work done to is the bodywork since when I purchased the car the body/paint work was so good it needed nothing significant doing. At this stage there are a couple of items needing attention. There’s an area of rusting at the bottom of the windscreen and at the back of the sills (they all go here eventually and most go much sooner than mine). Also there is a dent about half way down the driver's sill (visible in the picture) where I stupidly once lowered the car onto a misplaced axle stand. These items are really the only wriggle room for price negotiation as they are all that separates this car from the very best out there. If a new owner wanted to stamp his or her signature on the car a full body respray could be done, though it is not in the least necessary. The issues referred to above could be sorted economically and you really would have a 100% mint example.
If you are interested in a bargain, a good investment, and don’t want to miss out to another buyer then make me an offer of £15,000 (GBP) for an immediate sale. I may consider offers less than this closer to Christmas, but if a deal is not struck by 24/12/16, I will take the car off the market and arrange to put it into long term storage. I don’t need (or for that matter actually even want) to sell the car but I am not making any use of it and the likelihood of this changing in the future seems low.
Contact me to get a conversation started. There will be no test drives (passenger or otherwise) until it is clear you are a serious potential buyer. Thanks in advance, I look forward to sending this car off to a new and good home at what I consider to be a very fair price.
