1989 BMW

I am selling my April ’89 E30 M3 which can only be described as being in exceptional condition inside and out. It is a genuine Euro car having spent the first 11 years of its life in Berlin. The car was imported to the UK in Feb 2000 (the original Fahrzeugbrief and service book is present) Since then it has enjoyed a cosseted life with a thick folder full of invoices for parts and servicing since 2000.

The car is finished in zinnoberrot red and has recently had the original optional 16” wheels refinished professionally in black and silver as per the Ravagalia model. Tyres are near perfect Continental sport contact all round.

The car is a super rare lightweight spec car (A letter is included from the BMW UK car club stating it’s rarity) as it has wind up windows, no sunroof or air con so in keeping with the original race car’s ethos. The option list which is also included states the car was ordered with the very rare ‘proper’ Recaro seats with fat bolsters, 16” wheel upgrade, rear sun blind, first aid kit and warning triangle. It also includes the super rare 6L spare wheel petrol can fitted inside the 16” alloy spare wheel in the boot which still includes the warning triangle and first aid kit. Importantly the boot lid mounted tool kit is perfect and COMPLETE including the blue soft BMW decorated cloth and of course the spark plug tool.

The car is virtually standard apart from H&R springs and bilstein suspension all round. The middle exhaust box is a supersprint and the rear a genuine evo chrome tip item.

The bodywork has to be seen to be believed, the underside is totally ‘dry’ with no signs of corrosion nor past repairs. The sills and wheelarch liners have been off and waxoyled under, photos are available of the perfect condition under them, it’s rare that the sills are as perfect as my car. Pictures I have included of the engine bay show absolutely no hints of rust on any of the panel edges or seams, it’s truly like new under the bonnet.

Recently the braking system has been fully restored with all new seals and pistons in the calipers, which in themselves have been refurbished in gloss black. They were originally yellow/gold zinc passivated but I decided not to go with that colour as it looked too blingy! Very recent zimmermann discs are fitted all round as are Pagid pads.

Injectors cleaned and refurbished at injectortune

New Bosch ICV

New BMW big end bearings and rod bolts (originals kept and actually near perfect condition)

Sump baffle kit fitted

New E36 evo chain tensioner

Valves recently checked and clearances noted although no adjustments were required

Blaupunkt Memphis tape player with 3.5mm jack on front panel (you can use your ipod through it)

Super rare Mtech1 370mm steering wheel with new nappa leather, Mtech tri colour stitching and new badges.

New bushes / drop links front and back

Rebuilt oil pump (original parts kept and still in good order)

New Bosch distributer cap, coil, rotor arm and plugs

ALL screw in sensors / switches replaced.

Gearbox and axle oil changed with correct Castrol oils.

Mann fuel & oil filters replaced

Recent battery (car always kept hooked up to a Ctek conditioner)

Recent genuine floor mats and clips

And the list goes on….

With the car comes what I believe to be every car magazine feature and road test from the era and quite a few modern retrospective reviews too. Also included are various books and super rare original brochures, also included is a year correct M3 A4 brochure.

Quality working alarm fitted with spare fobs and instructions. 3 original keys present. I am only the 4th keeper including the original German keeper.

The car drives superbly, as it should. Its 103,000 miles feel & look more like a 20,000 mile car & has to be seen to be believed.

It is soon to be featured in Top Gear Magazine where it was used as a comparison with the new M3/4.
