Description
Continuing the theme established with the previous model – the 407, the
Bristol 408 was to use the 5.2 litre Chrysler V8 power unit, fitted with
‘Torqueflyte’ automatic transmission. The frontal styling underwent a
revision, now featuring horizontal bars in a rectangular grille. Produced
between 1963 – 66, some 83 examples were produced.
With a maximum speed in excess of 125 mph and turbine-smooth acceleration,
the 408 was a truly formidable motor car, combining performance and luxury
in the usual understated Bristol manner.
The 408 presented for sale here has been in the hands of enthusiastic owners
who have lavished considerable care and attention upon it in recent years.
The engine underwent a full professional rebuild approximately 29,000 miles
ago and a quality bare metal repaint was carried out. The shock absorbers
were replaced with Koni units, whilst the chassis was cleaned, painted and
Waxoyl treated internally.
Extensive details of maintenance are supplied, along with the Driver’s
Manual and copious invoices etc.
A rare and very desirable high performance car of impeccable pedigree, it is
