HISTORY:

Just recomissioned by Hangar 111 Lotus. 5 owners. 48475 miles from new. Complete history with a variety of invoices, service stamps / old mot certificates verifying the mileage. MOT June 2016. Handbook pack. Full set of keys with spares inc. immobiliser.

RECOMMISSIONING DETAILS:

This Esprit was owned by an Engineer / Scientist enthusiast since 1985. The car had been dry stored for the last 10 years prior to my acquisition earlier this year. Upon purchase I entrusted the car to Hangar 111 Lotus for a full appraisal and recommissioning. The car had been stored after a thorough rectification and service in November 2003 at 47828 miles with a bill totalling £4100. When inspected it was found to be original, sound and unabused. A large amount of money has been spent bringing the car back to my and Hangar111’s satisfaction and it is now in fine condition. This included specialist repainting of the front to eradicate micro blistering and the fitment of replacement dampers and factory springs, with the latest generation AVO one-way adjustable dampers. The engine has been compression tested and upon initial start up after such a long duration of inactivity, sounded very sweet performing as originally intended. Full invoiced copies of all the work are available and needless to say after such a long period of storage, the car is now fit for Esprit flavoured driving enjoyment, with everything working from the electric radio aerial to the air conditioning. Short of extended usage once purchased there are few outstanding issues of any note.

OWNERSHIP:

Originally sold to Romo Fabrics in Nottinghamshire by Peter Smith Sportscars, my research indicates that they kept for the first few years prior to being sold again, by the supplying garage to a gentleman from Warwickshire. He retained until November 1990, when a lady from Solihull purchased from The Norfolk Motor Co at 27003 miles. The 4th keeper from Gloucester then continued to care for the car until the last keeper collected in May 1995 at 33093 miles, owning for the following 20 years until my recent acquisition.

EXTERIOR:

Finished in very rare MONACO WHITE, the bodywork is apart from the front in totally original condition with few if any imperfections to any panel. With the original HC markings, single red pin striping to the side and glass sunroof, the car looks an absolute eye full perfectly representing the mid 1980’s James Bond period.

INTERIOR:

Perfectly complimenting the exterior is the lovely Full Red Leather interior with matching carpets. This is in my opinion totally original, with all components functioning properly. Apart from a very small amount of recolouring to the edge of the drivers seat, the trim is in astonishingly good condition, such that it would be easy to believe that it had been retrimmed by the Lotus factory! However the wonderful smell of aged leather together with the very light patina reveals the cars originality.

SUMMARY:

To say that I was fortunate to find this iconic final phase of the Giugiaro shape Esprit is an understatement. Having started with a very sound basis, on my behalf Hangar 111 Lotus have sympathetically coaxed this car back to life, refurbishing as needed. The end result of their efforts is something that I am proud to offer for sale and feel sure that the new owner will be as overjoyed to find a car in such fine unrestored original condition. With a potential full up restoration cost likely to approach 80k, this car must be seen as an investment at less than half this amount. The car is now back in my possession ready to view.
