In August of 2006, 88295 had a complete ground-up restoration, but the owner wanted more performance from the car than the little 4-cylinder engine and 46-year-old suspension and brakes could offer. The work was turned over to 356 specialist, Jim Rinker of Rinkertoys in Valley Center, CA. The decision was made to make the little Roadster into the definition of an Outlaw. During the complete mechanical and cosmetic restoration of the car the entire driveline was replaced with the more potent mechanicals from a 911, along with that car's suspension and disc brakes. A few visual hints suggest that this is not a stock 356: the louvered deck lid, 911 wheels, and fuel filler for the Carrera fuel tank in the center of hood.
