Description

The Black Snake: Nurburgring lap holder 1998. This Porsche 993RS was completed on 6.11.1995 and was first registered by Porsche Centre Cologne a few weeks later. It is chassis number WP0ZZZ99ZTS390789 and was delivered in Black/ A1A1 as a standard RS. The car was ordered and first owned by two brothers from Cologne who had the car prepared by SHK Motorsport for endurance racing at the Nurburgring before they sold it on to the boss of SHK Motorsport, Harry Wiesshaupt. It was he who had the idea of using this car to break the Nordschleife lap record for road cars by installing a modified four wheel drive system and engine from a 993 Turbo to maximise its potential and give it as much traction as possible. The car was then lightened using carbon composite RSR arch flares, front and rear bumpers and bonnet, a GT2 rear wing and engine lid, lexan windows, a stripped interior and full weld in Matter roll cage that links to the front strut tops as in the GT2 race cars, the suspension is fully adjustable Bilstein and prepared as in the GT2 race cars as well. The engine was tuned to 620bhp and the record attempt was made in conjunction with Sport Auto magazine with their chief editor Horst von Saurma-Jeltsch driving, the car recorded an incredible time of 7m 46s and took the record in the process, securing the legend of the Black Snake. After the record breaking run the car was given to the man who had financed the whole project, Mr. Stoscheck from Brose Car Parts and he used the car for the Targa Tasmania in 2001 as well as for track days. From there the car was sold on to its next owner in Stuttgart, then on to the the Netherlands in 2009 in a deal brokered by uber Porsche trader Thomas Schmitz before he took it back in part exchange against a 964 3.8RS. Thomas kept the car for a while for his personal use before selling it to its current UK owner who registered it here in October 2014. The total mileage of the car today is 35,000 miles (56,400kms), it was fitted with a new 530bhp engine at 22,000miles (35,400 kms) and it had new turbos fitted at 26,600miles (4290kms). The car was last serviced by Porsche Reading under 200miles (270kms) ago and had a Health Check completed too. To drive, the car is raw, exciting and very fast indeed but it is also manageable with great drivability. The power is addictive and full throttle in 3rd gear is something to behold, this car is Ferrari F40 fast. The total weight is 1317kg including a tank of fuel and you can feel the positivity of the chassis and handling as well as the power of the brakes, this is enhanced further by the 18 inch Cargraphic wheels and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tyres. With no carpets fitted there is quite a lot of interior drivetrain noise but it is perfectly manageable and adds to the raw experience of this wonderful and exhilarating car. The suspension is suited perfectly to smooth roads and track and could be softened off for more B road usage, a single layer of carpet inside is not something we would do but can easily be fitted if it is to be used more often on the road. Having spent time with this car and especially having driven it our main thought has been ''How can we keep it?'' It really is a very special and hugely exciting car, one for the drivers not for the speculators. As it should be with Porsches!
