Description

This superb left hand drive M472 Carrera RS Touring was supplied when new in Germany to the highly successful and celebrated German rally driver Manfred Hero. Finished in Grand Prix White with blue Carrera script, chassis 0979 was supplied from new with the factory options 220- limited slip differential and number 400- Recaro sports seats. The car was restored to very high standards in the 1990s by the legendary Manfred Freisinger who retained it in his private collection until 2007. It has been carefully and lightly used since by two English owners and remains in outstanding factory correct condition in all respects.
Manfred Hero competed with this car successfully throughout the 1970s, indeed this winning combination did much to enhance his reputation whilst showcasing the amazing capability and breadth of ability that we now associate with the Carrera RS. A number of photographs on file show the car in action during this period.
In the 1980s the car remained with German enthusiasts before being purchased by Manfred Freisinger in 1990. Manfred set up Freisinger Motorsport in 1967 to service the needs of Porsche Motorsport enthusiasts, the name becoming synonymous with the marque and meticulous standards over subsequent years. Showing amazing foresight, Freisinger bought as many new old stock Porsche parts as they became available often from the Porsche factory and authorised dealers who saw no requirement to hold parts inventories for now defunct models.
This expertise combined with his parts inventory made Freisinger the best possible restorer of chassis 0979, especially since this example was destined for his own collection. The car was fully restored with an obsessive attention to detail, many new old stock parts were utilised available only to Freisinger, many if which are today unobtainable. Today many years after completion of the work the RS remains in truly superb condition throughout with amazing detail so often lacking in this model.
After seventeen years of ownership Freisinger was finally persuaded to part with the RS, at which point it came to the U.K becoming part of Mr Frank Sytners enviable collection. In 2009 the highly respected marque specialist Maxted Page sold the car to another English enthusiast with whom it has remained since. The RS has continued to be well maintained as shown by service invoices on file from Maxted Page, Autofarm and Porsche Centre Byfleet (formerly Camtune) where it has been maintained by a senior mechanic who worked on this model when new. The car has seen minimal use in dry summer conditions, indeed the longest trip covered was to the 40 Years of The RS celebration in Reims in May 2013.
This must be one of the finest examples of the RS and the drive does not disappoint, the car has clearly spent its life with the right people.
