Porsche 911 1973 RSR LHD

For the privateer in the mid-1970s who wanted to go sports car racing, and in particular compete successfully at the famed 24 Hours of Le Mans, there was really only one viable option, the Porsche RSR. Introduced in 1973, the RSR was a factory-built racing car based on the 911 chassis. Weighing 900KGs, these cars were initially fitted with a 2.8 litre engine that grew to 3.0 litres by the end of 1973. They dominated by winning three international and seven national championships in the first season of racing, a feat that has not been repeated by any other sports car.
Today as in period, these Group 4 racers are a highly competitive machine for historic racing and events such as the Tour Auto.
This example we are offering for sale is a period specification evocation of the original cars. The brief was to build a competitive period FIA car with the build quality of a fully restored road car.Built on a genuine LHD 1973 911 platform, the car has been created by respected historic Porsche specialist Steve Winter from JAZ Motorsport to comply with current Historic regulations.
Great care has been taken to fit period historic parts where possible and a total of over £150,000 has been invested in the build.
Bruce Cooper of Sportwagen was entrusted to create a faithful reproduction of the 2.8 RSR body shell in steel with patterns being taken from a genuine period car to ensure accuracy. Like the original, lightweight bumpers and ducktail are fitted in glassfibre.
The 3.0 engine was homologated in late 73 so this was the capacity chosen for the engine. Neil Bainbridge from BS Motorsport has extensive knowledge of running historic 911's and so was a natural choice to dyno the engine and he provided some solid advice during the final build. The engine has 3.0 Mahle barrels and pistons, Carrillo rods, twin spark ignition, replica slides and produces an honest 320hp on the BS Motorsport dyno, similar to genuine cars in period. The exhaust system has been specifically designed to be under 105db without a significant loss in power, this would allow for any track day use.
The car was finished in 2013 and set up at Silverstone with Chris Snowdon from CSR at the wheel. This was followed by a successful first outing at the Spa Classic in May of 2013.
Due to a change of plans this stunning car is now offered for sale at considerably less than the build cost.
Road registered and supplied with FIA papers, this RSR is on the button and would make a competitive entry into championships such as the World Sportscar Masters as well as numerous European events including Tour Britannia or Tour Auto and is of course a fraction of the investment required for an original. In total this amazing RSR has had 5 hours of running since build completion.
