Description
For sale very nice standard MR2 turbo. Been in the family (myself or wife) last 10 years, I was the second UK owner and it was a fresh import before that. Genuine reasons for sale. Classic insurance (£140 on limited mileage last year).
In case you don't know, an MR2 turbo is JDM-import only and very different from a non-turbo. The suspension is completely different- including Bilstein dampers- and it drives very differently, particularly revision (rev) 3 and later when the infamous lift off oversteer of the early cars was rectified, along with many other improvements including the availability of an LSD (one is fitted to this example).
Rev 3- or a later car- are the ones to have due to the sorted handling, higher 245PS output and more easily tuneable "3sgte" (basically a Celica GT4 engine) and limited slip differential among other things. It's a hardtop so a fair bit lighter, stiffer and no worries about leaks. I spent ages finding it originally. This example car drives extremely well, as these do particularly on standard wheels. Specialist remarked on it at last service.
Regularly serviced, mechanically in very good condition/ well looked after. Lots of history. £2000 spent last 400km. New clutch, release bearing, rocker cover gaskets, cambelt (& water pump, idler bearings, tensioner/ cam body etc), front brake discs and offside caliper replaced. Recent alternator, rear pads, replacement of exhaust flexi Nov 2015, sump pan Aug 2015, new Berk exhaust- not too loud- Sept 2013. No leaks at all. MOT July 2017 (no advisories). Oil and filter service is due mid September (everything else has been done) and will be done before the sale completed.
The car has done 191km (odometer unconverted so true mileage known; 119k miles), speedometer in mph. Cosmetically the interior is very good for the year, the exterior could do with some tidying but is generally pretty good for a 22 year old black car. There is some paint fade but it isn't bad, the engine cover most affected. The sills are solid- the right had some surface rust, treated. A small amount of surface rust has been treated on the right door and upper right rear wheel arch. Touched up area above the left wheel could be redone better. Small dent above the right front wheelarch. Rather than covering these up these have just been treated and protected from rust for now.
Bad points: the rear boot holder has failed, the central locking no longer operates and the aircon doesn't get very cold (radiator on the way out). The offside front foglight doesn't work (major job including many hours of labour to replace) not a problem with MOT etc. The power aerial needs replacing, I have the part and will fit it if I get time.
The wheels are in generally good condition from the year with a few kerb marks. Still on all season (m+s rated) nexen tyres which have a good amount of tread on them and it does actually drive very well on them being a 4 season tyre rather than a proper winter. I also have a set of Falken v rated summer tyres with a good amount of tread on standard wheels but mix up means these are on wheels that could definitely do with being refurbished.
Standard wheels and a lack of modifications (other than the exhaust) also help with insurance.
To drive the car you will need to arrange your own insurance and bring evidence of this. The car is in Bridgnorth, Shropshire, West Midlands.
