Description
S1 2.8V6 MANUAL
74000 MILES
FULLY SERVICED AND MOT'D MID APRIL 2017.
Car owned by me since 2004, originally the rear trailing arms had rotted (common problem with all s1 cars, and costly to replace) i sourced new arms from harrogate horseless carriages who supplied a pair of new s2 arms (superseded part). These s2 arms are supposedly better at preventing the squatting of the rear end under acceleration.
I insured the car for 3 months then took it off the road with the intention of a complete rebuild.
This rebuild was put off for about five years as a couple of land rovers took priority.
The whole vehicle has been stripped.
The windscreen was cut out due to slight milkiness around the corners but is kept as a spare due to the cost of new screens and is included with the car. (i didn't refit it as it would have ruined the otherwise perfect body)
The chassis was sand-blasted and inspected. We repaired any holes, all on the outriggers hidden between bodywork were stones collect and rub between chassis and body.
I did take the chassis to a galvanises but they requested 10mm holes be drilled in the top and bottom of every closed tube to prevent explosion in the molten zinc. This would be detrimental to the strength of the chassis and decided against it.
Instead after researching paints that could provide long lasting protection I used a product called POR15 which is a rock hard paint which is designed to etch into rusted or pitted metal (sand-blasted ideal).
The chassis was completely coated 6 times with this product.
Inside the chassis was injected with Dinitrol and rotated and re-injected.
ALL SERVICE ITEMS WERE REPLACED,WATER PUMP, BALL JOINTS, BRAKES,PIPES,DISCS,SHOES,CYLINDERS. NEW CLUTCH WHILE THE ENGINE AND BOX WERE OUT.
Due to there being no problems with any of the engine, gearbox, differential these were left alone, just serviced
All other metal component on the underside were either shot-blasted or needle scaled to remove service rust and treated with POR15 (AT LEAST 2 COATS)
The body was stripped and refitted to the rolling chassis and sent to the body shop to be re-painted in its original Azure blue.
Then brought back for everything to be refitted before going back to the body shop for final polishing/finishing.
A brand new screen was finally sourced and professional fitted.
The original wheels are still kept for the car as original and untouched. but they weren't good enough to fit after such a good rebuild. These could be refurbished but would lose the original diamond cut finish.
The car is fully alarm and immobilised and fitted with a microwave interior detection and knock sensor.
The car has been kept purely for day trips and the odd trip to Wales. The car hasn't been on the road since 2012 due to lack of time and not being used enough to warrant it. I decided this year that it was time to sell as i actually have a kit car that still needs finishing and ive had that longer than this!
