What’s on offer:-
Up for sale my Calypso Red VX220 HPI clear with 52k miles on the clock. Registered 31st October 2002 (52 plate). I am the 5th owner and reason for sale is that I am looking to buy an older car and restore it. This car is immaculate and needs no tinkering whatsoever. I just taxed it until end of April 2014, MoT until around the same time also. Car has a fairly comprehensive service history with stamps in the book, the father of the owner previous to me is a mechanic so they did all their own servicing but kept receipts of all parts installed and I have these - so no stamps for that but as I say plenty of evidence of parts replaced regularly and a stamped book prior to their ownership. HPI Clear no accidents.
Engine, exhaust and mechanics:-
Standard 2.2L engine with 52k miles on the clock, no modifications except for the optional VSE (Vauxhall Sports Exhaust) which gives off a great sports car sound. New battery and new rear tyres put on June 2013. Fronts still have plenty of tread left. Pads and discs (Mintex branded) changed by previous owner 2 years back with plenty left on them. Engine mounts replaced at the same time. I have also changed the air flow pipe for the heaters so improve the flow of heat going into the cabin. There is an engine cover which keeps the coil pack and engine dry and prevents any type of water ingress which can happen to the spark plug channels in heavy and sustained rain. Feel free to contact me for an MoT summary report since 2006 which shows how well it’s been maintained.
Bodywork and exterior:-
Is in very good condition, absolutely no sign of the infamous bodywork 'bubbling' that can afflict a lot of these cars. For a ten year old car the red is still very red given the previous owner who had it for 5 years always kept it in a garage or out of the sun, so no fading of the paintwork. It also has an MMG rear splitter which is very subtle but adds a nice stance to the look of the rear of the car. Some other very subtle 'red' modifications such as red fuel cap bolts and red tyre valve caps. The window surround and front V have been wrapped in black vinyl.
Interior:-
I have done a few bits to the interior to tidy it up as it was looking a little worn. I put a leather cover over the centre console which houses the handbrake and gear knob. I also put a matching leather gaiter on the handbrake. The gear knob and handbrake I have upgraded from the OEM ones. I have had red carbon hydro-graphics put onto the dash-plates which matches it up with the exterior. There is a Kenwood CD player installed along with some Focal speakers I installed last month which give out a great sound and easily loud enough to be heard with the roof off and on the motorway. It has an optional centre brace fitted with metal gear surround. I have also re-trimmed the fabric roof with a liner to add extra warmth and insulation. I was out in the car in three degrees the other morning and it was very comfortable and warm travelling in jeans and t-shirt.
Care routine:-
I am meticulous with how I look after my cars, this one is no exception. It gets washed every week without fail. Every 2 months or so I use a detox shampoo to start over, then apply layers of polish and finally layers of hard wax to protect against the elements. I regularly condition and apply a water repellent to the removable roof. I use metal polish to bring the metallic engine parts up to a good shine in the engine bay. Inside twice this year have treated the leather to a leather conditioner and balm, I also polished the exposed metal and use a trim cleaner and sealant on the plastic bits. I have a car cover on the car and this will go with the car included in the price. Oil, brake fluid and coolant checked regularly.
Bad points:-
There are not many (even though it’s an 11 year old car) but will outline them here. Inevitable stone chips to the front bumper for this style of car. There is a chip on the windshield but its right at the bottom where the glass meets the frame well out of view and not an MoT issue. The fabric roof is starting to show some signs of wear on the top where the material sits on the bars but otherwise in good condition. One of the wheels has a mark on it but otherwise they are in good condition.
Your investment:-
I am looking for £7750 for one of the cleanest VX's out there. All the usual end of ad disclaimers about tyre kickers and test pilots applies. Happy to take you out for a test ride of course.
