Description

For sale is my 1992 VW Corrado 1.8 G60. The car has 115,500 miles on the clock and is in all round very good condition for its age, having had a lot of money spent on it in recent years. As you will see from the photos, the car has been subtlety modified to try and improve all aspects of the car.
The body work of the car is in very good condition having benefited from a full body respray in 2008, at the same time all the window seals replaced, the side strips removed, rear wiper removed and rear plinth smoothed with the VW badge removed.
The engine has benefited from a whole host of new parts having had the whole front end rebuilt just 6 months ago due to me finding some rust on the front cross member. The list of engine work is as follows:
• Rebuilt supercharger stage 5 with less than 500 miles. This work was completed by Jabbasport and I have the certificate and receipts to prove. (£340)
• Jabbasport 65mm pulley and chip kit.
• Jabbasport oil cooler kit (a must for any G60 in my opinion)
• New Supercharger belt, damper bushes and power steering belt.
• New oil feed pipe (Jabbasport)
• Exhaust manifold gaskets replaced and the manifold heat wrapped
• New K&N Induction Kit with cold air feed
• New lambda sensor
• New temperature sensor
• Full tune up completed by local German specialist (Pheonix Motor Centre)
• Replacement front cross member and radiator support bracket now Hammerite’d to prevent any future corrosion
• New heater matrix fitted by VW/Audi specialist
• All the engine brackets and metal work (inlet manifold etc) removed and shot blasted clean.
• Engine bay tidy including removal of the carbon canister and replacement of all the cable wrapping to make the bay look clean and tidy
• New oil and filter
• The ABS has been professionally removed with new master cylinder, servo and all the brake lines. This is another must on a Corrado of this age as ABS faults are very common and expensive to fix. The ABS has been removed and replaced exactly like for like of a Corrado that didn’t come with ABS. This will not show up on an MOT as the system has been entirely and professionally removed.
• The underneath has been wax oiled to stop any corrosion.
All the above work was completed less than 6 months ago as I originally intended to use the car as an everyday runner, the following work was also completed previously:
• New cam belt, rollers and aux belt at 100k.
• New battery
• Vibratechnic front engine mount
• Replaced fuel lines which run close to the exhaust manifold and can be a hazard.
• Downpipe back Supersprint exhaust (6000 mile ago)
• Front wipers replaced with Lupo blade type wipers
• Both door handles have been rebuilt the internals removed and cleaned and new parts installed so that they function correctly.
• The gearbox and cabling is smooth after the mechanism on top of the ‘box was stripped and cleaned
The suspension has been fitted with adjustable coilovers all round and has also had the front two top mounts replaced as these were starting to wear. Currently the ride height is set quite high as I don’t particularly like the “slammed” look but they will adjust down pretty low if that is what you’re into!
The wheels are 15x 6.5J Fox alloys fitted with VW badges which look quite subtle and all have good tires. I also have a set of 15” x 8” and 15” x 8.5” BBS RM’s that are available to go with the car for an additional cost. These have been powdercoated black and have stainless dishes fitted with new centre caps.
The original interior has been completely replaced with the electric cream leather Recaros from a later VR6, including the door cards and all the matching interior trim. These are in very good condition with only the drivers’ seat showing some wear around the bolsters. In addition to this the dashboard has been treated and painted to match in cream. This looks very effective and gives the interior a truly unique look. The only other interior change is the addition of an aftermarket CD player.
If you are looking to buy a Corrado you will know that the electrics are not the best, so I will be up front in saying that the spoiler only works on the button but not automatically at speed. Also the sunroof has the usually problem where it will only tilt and not slide.
All other electrics: windows, remote central locking, seats adjustment and heater controls etc all work fine.
The Corrado is by no means a brand new car and does have a few issues that I will be honest about:
• The sunroof/spoiler problems mentioned above.
• There is small patch of rust on the rear window the size of a 20p piece
• The radio reception is poor, I think it may require a new aerial
• There are two different keys needs to open the doors and the ignition barrel. This is due to the previous locks breaking and being replaced. Although with remote locking, I only ever use the one key to start the car so have never found this a problem.
• A few stones chips and wear associated with a car of this mileage.
All round the car really would make a good buy for someone and I see no reason why you couldn’t enjoy this as an everyday runner for quite a while to come. I’ve spent over £2.5k on the car in the last year alone to make it as reliable as a G60 can be! However, as I am getting married and starting university all in the next six months I’m afraid she has to go.
The number plate G5 XTY (G SXTY) will be included in the sale. This has been valued at £500 and really sets the car off. I’ve taken the car to a couple of different shows and it does get a lot of attention.
The car will come with 6 months tax and 6 months MOT. The car has a part service history and then receipts to prove maintenance in addition to this.
