STUNNING ORIGINAL MK1 VOLKSWAGEN GOLF C 1982
Hello there!
Thanks for taking the time to look at my advert. Sadly I'm having to sell "Saffy" my very original unmolested 1982 Mk1 Golf (facelift 3 door) 1.1 C.
Much as I am going to regret this sale, I need the garage space for another car so she needs a new, caring home. Preferably an enthusiast as she has that perfect combination of being an unmolested manual 3 door in polar white.

Background to Ownership
I owned this car about 18 months ago. I bought it off a local lady who had owned it for many many years but no longer used it. The two front panels were rotten so I sourced original panels from a mint identical car in Spain and then shipped over to the UK. Sounds like a lot of effort but the VW heritage wings were absolute crap and I sent them back!
A local classic restorer painted and refitted the new (original secondhand) wings. They match the body superbly and the extra expense was worth it to ensure the seam lines with the bonnet were spot on.
At the same time I also decided to have the sills and rear valance repainted (small area of surface rust under number plate - common problem) and I decided to have the spare wheel well repaired too. This was all done using original parts and matched paint codes. The cost of this work alone was £900+ but it was worth it to do it right.
On the proviso that I got first dibs if they ever wanted to sell it again, I sold it to my boss for his daughter to lean to drive on last May - first car! Sadly due to having no power steering she (the car) just sat on the drive as his daughter wants something more modern...
My boss informed me the car was not being used and was looking a bit forlorn. So, true to my word I bought her back off him for what he paid me. Truth be told I could not bear for all of the previous year's hard work to be wasted. As of last weekend Saffy and all her docs are back with me. Unfortunately I still have 5 other vehicles which means the neighbours are getting a bit anxious - so I have decided to find her a home that will do her justice. Hence she is now for sale.
Running & Reliability
Saffy was sat for the best part of a year and as a result she needs to be run regularly. These small engines do require regular use so I have bought various bits for her and given her a basic tune up (including coil pack) and now she runs and drives well. She starts from cold well, responds to the manual choke and the fan kicks in as intended when she is up to running temperature. She does not overheat and I have flushed out the radiator and replaced the cooling hoses and topped her back up. When driving she feels very tight - like it is 5 years old, not 31 and brakes well. She is a joy to drive in fact.
Recent service 10.2.2014 - full service, oil filter, oil, air filter, spark plugs, fan belt, new alternator, (£289.54) 2 x hoses (£45) and coil pack (£32)
New battery last week - £70
That said I have not taken Saffy on a very long run simply due to time constraints (hence the sale). Consequently I am not able to guarantee that Saffy will not require future maintenance like most older cars and as such I would recommend that the winning bidder collects her on a trailer or at least ensures they have breakdown assistance (a very sensible decision with any classic anyway) if they intend to drive her away.
I do not see any reason why Saffy would not fly through her next MOT.
I can email a video of Saffy running if so required and a link to 120 hi res photos.
"Bad bits"
Its hard to find anything wrong with the car at all, but in the interests of complete honesty I highlight the following:-
1. JVC cd player works fine, but is sadly a 'bit 2001'.
2. There is a minor ding on the O/S door - see pics. An easy repair but it annoys me :)
3. There is slight wear on the driver's seat bolster (see pics)
4. The engine bay could do with a good clean!
5. The black decal strips are not all absolutely secure but this is a quick and simply fix. These are the original strips (metal) and not cheapo plastic copies.
6. There is a very slight paint crack / blemish on the bonnet. Hardly noticeable but worth pointing out.
That's it!
My reason for sale is that I am selling my 911 C4s to achieve a little dream and buy a 996 turbo. :)
£3650 OVNO for this stunning piece of VW history.
