VW GOLF MK1 CABRIO 1985

This is a 1985 Golf Mk1 Cabriolet. This car is a cult classic and is in original condition. In blue colour with a matching blue roof. You don’t see too many of this colour combination. The car had a brand new roof installed on it just a few months old before being rested up. There are no modifications and the car is nice and original. The car is solid all over with very few signs of rust. The underside is one of the most solid cars I have seen that has been stood. Prime for restoration, it wouldn’t take too much, this car is in good condition. A great time to buy a cabriolet original and tinker with it in the summer months. These cars are only going up in value, so you could also class this as an investment. (I can’t guarantee that of course, and depends how much you want to spend on it)

It’s a 1.6 GL automatic, so really easy to cruise and drive with a lovely old school feel to it. However, would be a great shell if required to put a more modern engine into it. I brought the full service kit for the current set up, including sump seals, cam belt, water pump, fluids for transmission, cooling, oil, filters etc, but have just run out of time.

I believe these originally may have has steel wheels, but on here you have some lovely classic VW original alloys in great condition. I believe that these wheels are very sort after also, so you could make money on these if you wished. It has 93,500 miles on the clock, no MOT as has not been driven for a while.

I moved this to my house as the pal I brought it from was moving and had no room to store it, I fully had the intention to tinker and get running as is and potentially enhance, but time will not allow and I have too many other projects.

Good points

-All original

-No modifications

-As rust free as you can expect from a car of this age

-New roof, no leaks

-Interior is in good usable condition

-Old school pull out stereo!

-Full service kit included (As many parts as I could think of to get it running)

Bad points:

-Paint lacquer has deteriorated in a number of areas, could do with a respray at some point. There are a few minor dings, which if you were to respray, should get sorted out at the same time.

-Its currently a non-runner, having been sat for a number of years, I didn’t want to risk firing it up without a full service first. I am ensured it was running before parked up. Family and other commitments left it sitting unused

-The car is showing its age in some areas of interior, not worn out, just need some TLC to restore

The car will need to be trailered away, it does roll but I wouldn’t advise towing without a trailer, and I am not sure of the legalities of this when a car is SORN?

I brought this car from a friend of the family with the intention of restoring, but unfortunately other commitments have got in the way. Happy to take viewings at your convenience. I have stored on my drive with a cover over it, not that the roof needs it, just for additional protection.

I have tried to be as honest as I can, and recommend you come and view with an open mind as to the potential. Price reflects the money I gave for it (Didn’t even cover the cost for the new roof, receipt included, over £800), and the service kit included. I’m not looking to make any money, but would love the car to get restored and back on the road again. Ideally not broken for parts, but I can’t stop that once sold. I have the keys including the immobiliser and the V5. There is not much paperwork history with the car, but it does have the original service books and manual.
