There have been many attempts at bringing the concept of the original Lotus 7
up to date, but with the original design such a classic - and such a simple
formula - there's been little to challenge it to date. Given the minimalist
nature of the car, there's little room for manouvre for designers seeking a new
front engined, rear wheel drive lightweight sports car.
Will the 21st Century bring us a genuinely fresh interpretation or are we set
for another decade of tweaks and makeovers of the original design?
There's at least one design team working hard on making that 21st Century
sportscar that adheres to the same principles of light weight and minimalism.
Shown below are the first sketches and designs from that team. Spotting the
opportunity to do an online design 'clinic' they've asked us to show you the
designs and despite knowing what a harsh bunch you are, they want your feedback!

Who is the mystery team you're no doubt wondering. In due course we'll be
able to reveal that, but for the moment they don't want your views tainted by
any preconceptions, so it's a secret!
So, let's have it - what do you think? Oh, and let's be constructive eh?
