If only every PH gathering could be conducted in such beautiful weather eh? We had hours of sunshine for this year's Friday Service, and plenty of great cars enjoying it too.
Chris did make it but in a Cayenne borrowed from Porsche rather than the M5. What a shame that couldn't be fixed. Still, we hardly struggled for covetable cars with everything from a triumvirate of Abarth 500s to Lotus Esprits to Lamborghinis and a load more besides. I'll endeavour to post as many up here as the mix was so eclectic. See the mini quadbike thing parked next to the Aston if you want a proof of diversity!
Liveries not all LM related....
The weather, the imminent race and a good turnout made for a real carnival atmosphere down in A Field at Le Mans, the free pint for PH T-shirt wearers no doubt augmenting that. But it was essentially everything that makes a Sunday Service so enjoyable, only on a Friday and with a far more agreeable start time. Plus some heat. Lots of people who liked cars met in cool cars to talk about cars. Burgers and beer only improves matters further.
Personally I was swooning over a Porsche 964, a Civic Type R saloon (sorry), an E36 M3 estate conversion and a French registered Talbot. The latter far cooler than it sounds.
Now the discussion is on what the qualifying times mean for tomorrow. The Toyotas look fast but a few believe that Porsche may be holding something back. The prospect of those three LMP1 manufacturers finally going to battle at Le Mans is so exciting. And we'll have Chris's Carrera Cup race to get us in the mood. Le Mans 2014 is less than 24 hours away now...
