This tour takes in the Circuit of Ireland Rally route, the third oldest road rally in the world. The rally inspired generations of local drivers and feted talents such as Roger Clark, who won the 1970 rally in an Escort RS1600.
Our route starts in Rosslare and takes in the city of Waterford before heading along the south coast past Cork. We then follow the west coast up past Galway, Donegal and Sligo and the Giant's Causeway before heading south to Dublin for our final night. Highlights include Killarney, the Ring of Kerry, Dingle Peninsula, Cliffs of Moher, the West Coast of Ireland and the Northern Irish 'Atlantic Drive' as well as a range of superb hotels handpicked to offer members a memorable and enjoyable trip on PistonHeads' first ever tour to Ireland.
The tour runs from Saturday 24 May to Friday 30 May 2014 (inclusive).
Our first night is at the Athenaeum House Hotel overlooking the River Suir estuary. In the evening, members will eat dinner together in the hotel or have the option of wandering into nearby Waterford to find something to eat and drink.
On the second day we will depart from Waterford, making our way west towards Cork before heading out to the spectacular west coast. Passing Kinsale and Clonakilty we then head up towards Bantry and into Kerry. Our destination is the wonderful Aghadoe Heights Hotel and Spa on the edge of Killarney and overlooking Killarney Lakes.
On day three we will make our way from Killarney around the Ring of Kerry - a fabulous drive of 110 miles that encapsulates some of the most magnificent coastal scenery in Ireland. Our route then gives you the option of driving the Dingle Peninsula before heading north past Listowel for a short ferry crossing (from Tarbert to Killimer) into County Clare. Our stop is at the Lisloughrey Lodge Hotel just past Galway.
Day four will see us departing Galway, travelling north through the Connemara National Park along Ireland's west coast. Driving through the Ballycroy National Park, we then head to Ballina. Our destination is the wonderful four-star Ice House Hotel located just outside Ballina on the River Moy estuary.
On day five we will drive along the west coast of Ireland where it meets the Atlantic Ocean passing Sligo, Donegal and Dunfanaghy. Our route encompasses part of the Glenveagh National Park before passing Letterkenny into Northern Ireland.
The sixth day we will drive to the Giant's Causeway - we recommend you set aside a minimum of one to two hours for your visit to include the world-famous basalt columns and the Shepherd's Steps. Continuing up along the Northern Irish coast, our route incorporates the beautiful 'Atlantic Drive' which, on a clear day, offers a spectacular view of Scotland. From Larne, our route takes us directly to Dublin. Our destination is Croke Park Hotel - a fabulous four-star hotel located to the north of the city.
On the final day after breakfast, we depart the hotel at 12.00pm for our return ferry from Dun Laoghaire Port at 1 pm. Our expected arrival time into Holyhead Port is 5 pm.
