So, a long weekend and plenty of stuff from the last week on PistonHeads for you to (hopefully!) enjoy, including Harris in a 12hp Citroen. And loving it. Read on...
Our drive last week in the new
Subaru WRX STI
has got us all misty-eyed for fast four-wheel drive turbo things. And so
Foes Reunited
took a look back to a point when the rivalry between the Impreza (as was) and Evo was at its height, re-examining the original Autocar verdict to see if it still stands. Proof of how influential those cars were continues to flood in, Volvo joining the fray with its
Polestar tuned V60 estate
which we drove this week. Enough to tempt you from that S4? With 350hp and a smattering of choice Swedish go-faster bits - not to mention a fast paint scheme - it might just. Meanwhile VW hinted at a move to seizing ground once exclusively held by the likes of the Evo and Impreza with a concept
400hp Golf
. If you prefer your turbocharged cars a little more classy Keith Adams meanwhile recommended heading down to your local auction and snapping up a
Bentley Turbo R
With two shows going on pretty much simultaneously on opposite sides of the world there's been plenty in the news. Aforementioned Golf will appear at Beijing but in New York Mazda revealed a run-out MX-5 25th and the chassis/running gear/powertrain (pedants delete as applicable) for the
fourth-gen car
. 100kg less, still RWD and with a revvy normally aspirated engine it looks promising. PH
Mazda fanboy
Dan approves. We also got confirmation that AMG's new 911 rival will be called the
Mercedes-AMG GT
and will have interior switchgear inspired by its V8 engine. Land Rover confirmed the first fruits of the new Discovery family will be called the Discovery Sport but declined to share a picture, reckoning
the concept
is enough to keep us going for now.
Plenty of witterings from the team this week after a busy weekend. Matt's liveblog from his trip to
Monza with Bentley
is well worth a read while Dan had a couple of days at Spa first battling millionaires in Ferraris and then lunatics in Renaults unable to tell the difference between a track day and a Clio Cup race. His
liveblog is here
but it also inspired a standalone
celebration of the Belgian circuit
and a (possibly slightly sped up) lap of
the old road track
. We also got an interesting explanation of why the Elise went
into limp mode
half way round the track... PH2's Jon meanwhile introduced the latest two-wheeled addition to the PH Fleet - a
Suzuki GSX-R1000
. Just don't call it a Gixxer, OK? And in a break from the norm Harris abandoned mega horsepower supercars and instead took us for a ride in his latest acquisition. It's front-wheel drive, has 12hp and would appear to make him
very, very happy
the other Citroen
we drove this week made Matt anyway.
