In terms of TT legends two names spring to mind - Joey Dunlop and John McGuinness. The two were on the same team for a time and McGuinness' formidable tally of TT wins is second only to Dunlop's 26. A number previously celebrated with a very limited run of Joey Tribute Honda SP-1s back in 2003, PH2's Jon Urry recalls.
And in a last-minute surprise when McGuinness emerged from the Honda TT Legends paddock for Sunday's Superbike race with bike and leathers paying tribute to Joey and celebrating the fact it was 30 years since his TT debut. In the end McGuinness was denied the win but, fittingly, it was at the hands of another Dunlop, Joey's nephew Michael. McGuinness didn't take defeat lying down though, his formidable final lap setting a new record speed for the TT course and demonstrating that even with the next generation of Dunlops coming of age he's still got what it takes to wear the celebrated colours with pride. And here's a little vid about how and why they did it.
