'Race on Sunday, sell on Monday' is an old motorsport adage that has arguably become less and less applicable in recent years. Just last week we had the news of
Global Touring Cars
, proffering V8 spaceframe racers that look like four-cylinder road cars. Not exactly a tangible link.
Could this look any more menacing?
Lexus RC F
touring car has been officially released. Competing in the GT500 category of Japan's Super GT (and looking remarkably similar to the
LF-CC concept
from last year), the 5.0-litre V8 road car has become... a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo racing car. Oh.
Regardless, it looks rather fabulous in the carbon, all outlandish aero and gaping intakes. Competing against NSXs and GT-Rs, the GT500 class promises to be quite a spectacle when Super GT kicks off in April.
The downsized engines still make 500hp though; the thinking behind the move is to create stronger links with the DTM and increase the likelihood of 'exchange races' between the two series. Can you imagine that?
And the Lexus pit crew? We have no idea either.
