Occasionally a press release is just so wonderfully daft that its subject matter must be featured. We're not usually ones for pick-ups but an exception has to be made for the Toyota Tundra Bass Pro Shops Off-Road Edition.
Where to start? It's only available in the Gulf states (Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma and Texas) and the Tundra BPS is the first collaboration between Toyota and the nation's 'premier outdoor retailer'. To that end, each customer of this triumph of testosterone will receive 'their choice of a special fishing, hunting, camping and marine outdoor gear lifestyle package' from Bass Pro, worth one thousand of your US bucks. That's real value.
Mechanical spec is identical to a regular Tundra, with a 5.7-litre i-Force V8 packing 381hp and 401lb ft. MPG? 11 using US gallons. CO2? Sounds a bit Communist. But the Bass Pro is also built 'with safety in mind' says Gulf States Toyota. There's probably a gun joke in there somewhere. The Tundra includes a tow package for taking a boat, ATV or UTV (that's a utility task vehicle. We had to look it up as well) and 'top braking technology'.
Y'know, in case it wasn't obvious
As a Bass Pro Shops Off-Road Edition customer you will also have a feast of rare and desirable extras to show off at your next hoedown. Those rims? 20-inch Milled-Matte with All Terrain Upgrade tyres. Yessir. 'Custom' floor mats with that beautiful Bass Pro logo, also seen on the bed decals. And spray-on bedliner for all the heavy duty activities that may take place out back.
The Bass Pro is exclusively available in silver with the 4x4 CrewMax SR5 configuration. Like it or lump it sissy. According to Gulf States Toyota's president Marty Mcf... Collins, the Tundra "has all the capability to take you where you want to go, but you'll look good doing it". After all, pick-up trucks and being outdoors "are a natural way of life" down South.
Built in the U.S. by 2,900 hard-working Americans on the historical JLC Ranch in San Antonio (that's direct from the Toyota press bumf), the Bass Pro costs $43,975. Don't forget that free Bass Pro package gift too. See you at the rodeo.
