Whether at Frankfurt or Paris, Europe's autumn motor show is always a whopper. Paris 2014 has been no different with big debuts from loads of major manufacturers plus a host of intriguing concepts too. Read all about them here!
Of course we could direct you to the
Paris news hub
liveblog
pages to round up the PH view of the Mondial de l'Automobile. But then that would ignore the individual cars that have made a big splash (
Discovery Sport
pun intended) in France and there have been a few.
VW used its pre-show evening event to reveal the wonderful XL Sport, an innocuous name that belies its mad origins; it's a longer, wider, frankly pretty badass XL1 with a 200hp Ducati bike engine in it. Lunacy of the finest kind that deserves to make some sort of production.
Other highlights? Citroen used Paris for the full launch of its DS sub-brand and did so with the spectacular DS Divine concept. Like all good motor show eye candy, it has huge wheels, daft doors and a lavish interior. The production version could be interesting. The Infiniti Q80 Inspiration is also rather intriguing, the new Civic Type R teaser has whetted appetites further and then Lamborghini did its own 900hp hyper hybrid.
V8 Mustang? Now we're talking
Unsurprisingly the cars at Mondial de l'Automobile have rather dominated our headlines since Monday but there has been more news to discuss. The list of cars destroyed through
the scrappage scheme
has been released this week and it's truly saddening; all manner of interesting stuff scrapped for the sake of a new car discount. Such was the level of response from PHers there's a
separate article
on the weird and wonderful stories associated with the scheme.
If you've had enough of reading about static cars, don't forget the latest Mustang V8 GT has been driven. Yes, it was in America and we'll be sure to grab one in the UK as soon as possible but the early signs are fairly positive. Really.
If you prefer your new stuff on two wheels then the Cologne bike show has been reviewed too. And Jaguar has released every spec detail on the XE with a configurator. Get planning your new company car now...
The PH smiley flag (there really is one ) flies at half mast for the next few days with the
departure of Chris Harris
. Before he moved on, we did get chance to hear about life with 'his'
Audi RS6
. All is going swimmingly it would seem.
But the rest of us have been keeping busy. Dan of course did the the selfless thing of taking a Lamborghini to Paris so expect to hear a little more on that soon. Matt has fulfilled a long held ambition of driving the Nordschleife and did so without drama. Well, apart from on Belgian motorways.
What else? Another PHer has contributed his £100K Garage, a Honda CR-X from the classifieds continued our fast Honda appreciation and Shed uncovered an underrated Alfa gem. Don't forget to check out a slice of sideways V8 muscle in POTW.
