motor show concept
was a four-door version of a two-door coupe that looked quite a lot like an existing four-door version of a two-door coupe based on a saloon, we won't even guess what this car will be. It literally could be anything on Audi's recent form. Perhaps a two-door track-prepped Q3 with a hydrogen fuel cell and crocodile leather.
We've had the four-door TT. Two-door A8 maybe?
Anyway. What we do know about this LA show concept is that it's the first car with the design signature of new styling boss Marc Lichte. Given how successful Audi's recent styling efforts have been with both press and customers that's a big task for the German. His previous work at VW before joining Audi in February included the Mk5, 6 and 7 Golfs plus the Touareg and Phaeton.
Though we're promised a 'highly emotional' new design idiom from Lichte, the core Audi values of 'sportiness, lightweight design and quattro drive' have been preserved. It will be a 'new beginning', says Audi, in both interior and exterior design. With both the A4 and R8 due for replacement soon this car could hint at some styling cues for those. When we can discover what on earth it looks like.
