How a GT3-spec Chevrolet Camaro has passed PH by is very surprising and, quite frankly, a bit embarrassing. How could we not know about such a thing?
It is built by Reiter Engineering, the same guys creating the KTM X-Bow GT4 and the reason the Camaro came belatedly onto our radar. The specification of this car is simply outrageous: a 7,883cc dry-sumped V8 is front-mid mounted with outputs of 'more than' 650hp and 590lb ft. The whole car weighs just 1,290kg, or 50kg more than a Renaultsport Clio. Complete with the full roster of racing aero addenda and painted black (obviously), the Camaro GT3 is quite possibly the most malevolent race car in the world. It's fabulous.
Championships featuring GT3 cars include the Blancpain Sprint and Endurance Series plus the German ADAC GT. Imagine this racing against the Bentleys, McLarens, Astons and so on. More need to be sold and raced (it costs 195,000 euros, if you're interested).
Reiter Engineering and the Sareni Camaro team would probably rather we ran one of their videos in this slot but all of them are rather overwrought and don't focus on the car enough. Instead we have a very simple video of the Camaro thundering around Monza on a test day. Keep a look out for the fuel vapours from the side-exit exhaust. What a car!
