With so much focus on Bloodhound SSC and attempting to break 1,000mph it was inevitable that the old record would fall by the wayside ever so slightly.
So as part of Guinness World Records 60th anniversary, that momentous 1997 land speed record of 763mph is being marked once more. This video features interviews with Andy Green and Richard Noble about the development of Thrust SSC plus footage from the attempt itself. Listen out too for how close the latter was to "take off" in Thrust II when setting the previous 650mph record...
Of course discussion eventually turns to the Bloodhound project and how the Thrust SSC knowledge will help that. But at essence it's a celebration of when the sound barrier was broken on four wheels and what a marvellous achievement that was. Makes you proud!
