Over £4,000 raised for kids' cancer charity
|
A large number of PHers congregated at Rye House on Saturday to support the annual charity kart race held there in aid of CLIC (Cancer and Leukaemia in Childhood). Among the 100 drivers taking part were ex-Formula One driver Mike Wilds, lap record holder Josh O'Malley and Page 3 girl Karen White.
Teams had to "bid" for their slot on the grid. With Mike Hunt Racing lining up on pole position while a number of the favourites were relegated to start from the pits. In what can only be described as "close proximity" racing there appeared to be a secondary competition for who could clock up the largest number of black flags. This including organiser Myles Packman who stormed from 25th place to first in 12 laps, only to spend a minute in the pits explaining his overtaking tactics.
On the final lap of the race and after lowering his own lap record, Raiders Racing’s Josh O'Malley took the lead to came home first with Helicopter Services and ACE Racing hot on his heels. In the finest traditions of this event, the first two teams were disqualified for having “too much local knowledge” leaving ACE Racing to collect the silverware on their debut.
In total the event raised £4,000 for CLIC. If you would like to make a donation to CLIC there is a link from the photos page (link below).
