One team has a spot of bother
Tomorrow, London's Hyde Park will provide the start line for a faintly bizarre assortment of cars as they start their mission to drive across a quarter of the world in three weeks.
Destination: Mongolia. The mode of transport? Any car with an engine capacity under 1,000cc.
Why? To raise funds for the charities Send a Cow and Save the Children in Mongolia.
Pandas, Minis, a couple of Citroen 2CVs and even a Robin Reliant are just some of the cars that will be making the journey of a lifetime to raise up to £40,000 to provide livestock and training in organic farming to some of Africa’s poorest people.
Vickie King, Fundraising Manager for Send a Cow, said: "When we first heard of the Mongol rally in 2004 it was one of the most exciting fund raising exercises we had ever heard of. It is no surprise that in just one year the number of teams taking part has risen from just six to over fifty. The money raised will help many, many African families work their way out of poverty for good. We are extremely grateful to the organisers for supporting us again this year."
Come along to Hyde Park tomorrow at 12noon and meet the teams before their departure at 1pm. The cars will be in North Carriage Drive.
