Joining the 5,500 examples of Porsche's finest sports cars at Brands Hatch for the annual Porsche Festival on 28-29 August will be a handful of Porsche tractors, sitting quietly alongside the exotica and historic race and rally cars, including the awesome 917 multiple Le Mans winner. Porsche made over 150,000 examples of farmyard machinery from 1948 to 1963.
One of rarest examples on display at the Festival will be a special streamlined coffee plantation tractor. Resembling an orange bullet, it is the only surviving model of its kind in the world. Other versions trackside include a Porsche Master, Porsche 108F, Porsche R22, Porsche 312 and a Porsche AP16.
The Festival features a full, two-day race programme including the Michelin Porsche Open, the Michelin Porsche club Championship, and the Porsche 924 Championship (see the timetable for race timings and duration).
Other on-track activity includes:
- A repeat of the world record attempt at 0800 on Monday to beat last year's success of 256 moving Porsches on a 2km track.
- In between the race events there will be demonstration activities when club members show off their Porsches behind the Carrera GT pace car.
- The Porsche Festival will also celebrate five iconic birthdays. The Carrera will mark its half-century, the 912 becomes 40 years young and the 924 hits 30. Meanwhile, the ‘Slantnose’ Turbo reaches 20 and the 993 celebrates its tenth birthday. Each of anniversary will be celebrated with a track event.
- Passenger hot ride laps will give you the chance to experience a Porsche on a race track. And, to see how it should be done, the Carrera GT will give a number of demonstration displays at top speed.
Off-track activity includes passenger hot rides in a series of Porsche Cayennes, go-karting, while static displays include a selection of Porsche race cars - some not seen outside of the Porsche museum for many years, some displayed in the pit garages.
