Hopkirk in the Monte Carlo Rallye
Ex-rally driver Paddy Hopkirk will be speaking at Haynes Motor Museum on 30 September, talking about his varied and fascinating career that spans 50 years in motorsport.
Hopkirk shot to fame in the 1960’s, especially with his victory in the 1964 Monte Carlo Rally. He went on to compete at Le Mans, the Safari Rally and the London-to-Sydney, among others.
Hopkirk will also be joined by one of his closest collaborators, author of ‘The Paddy Hopkirk Story' and former competitions manager, Bill Price.
Both will be answering questions from the audience and signing copies of the book. The biography, which will be on sale in the museum, gives an insider’s look at the golden age of international rallying.
Following the talk and questions, the museum will also provide a buffet.
Also on the premises is Haynes' huge international motor museum. PistonHeads visited it recently and, while the collection is a little hit-and-miss, there's a large and varied collection of cars, from the early days of motoring onwards, which is well worth a visit. The museum will be open until 9:30pm; if you plan to attend the talk and view the museum, allow at least an hour for the museum.
