Figures out today from an swiftcover.com insurance reveal that where you live does really have an influence on what car you drive. Just some of the stereotypes this analysis supports or debunks include:

The most popular county for Fords is indeed Essex – 61% up on the national average. Within Essex, Thurrock has twice the density of Fords than the nation as a whole, and you are 76% more likely to see a Ford in Southend-on-Sea.
You are as likely to see a 4X4 car in the commuter belt of the South East and London as you are to see one out in the rural areas of the UK such at Shropshire and Cumbria.
Whilst luxury models are more popular in the South East and London, the area with the highest density of Mercedes to other cars is East Riding of Yorkshire where there is double the national average.
Canny Scots appreciate the value represented by Skodas – in fact in Dumfries and Galloway there is double the national average of these good value, more affordable cars.
Smart cars are unsurprisingly most popular in the nation’s cities – most notably Bristol and Middlesbrough – but also in Swindon.
People from the West Midlands are almost twice as likely to own a Rover – being proud of their local heritage.
