Despite the claims of some, we are not prone to bias at PH. Having said that, you'll forgive us a little McLaren fascination this week with the arrival of the 650S. So there are words, videos and pics aplenty on Woking's latest supercar. But just to redress the balance, there are not one but two Porsche 911s driven since Monday. And a V8 Mercedes estate. Variety is the spice of life, right?
Well if you're fed up of the McLaren...
This was the week PH was able to drive McLaren's newest car, the fabulous
650S
. Our coverage was comprehensive, of course, with Dan's review and
Monkey's video
covering all the bases from the launch. Surely a 458 Speciale comparison beckons as soon as possible.
The excitement around the 650S launch was tempered by the announcement of 12Cproduction ending. But all is not lost for those customers with a range of 650S upgrades being offered. And if all the modern McLaren stuff does nothing for you, be sure to check out this classic CanAm video.
Porsche was prominent on PH this week also, with a pair of 911s featured. The 50 YearsEdition (yes, we know it's late) was driven on Tuesday and the latest Targa on Thursday.
Probably the best BMW 'offering' this week
BMW always puts in a big effort for April Fool's day, and this year was no disappointment with two improbable models 'announced'. But it's actually serious about
the X7
M3 GT
. Oh. Full details have been released of the
M4 Convertible
ahead of its New York show debut. Land Rover has only teased its show star with the '
Discovery VisionConcept
', but plenty of details on it and a whole host of other debutants will surely follow soon.
With BMW welcoming in a new era of M3, we're bidding to farewell to the last generation's nearest rival; the Mercedes C63 AMG. A 507 wagon, it will be a busy and popular member of the PH Fleet for a few months to come. And if that's far too conventional an estate, how about a Ford Mustang shooting brake?
PH catches up with the real Stig
Not got enough 650S yet? Have a read of Dan's chat with McLaren's
Chris Goodwin
detailing how F1 cars influenced the new model. It was the second great interview of this week in fact, following up from a fascinating discussion with
Stig Blomqvist
This may be unprecedented on PH, but we also have three Lotus stories this week. Arguably of most interest is the arrival of an Evora S Sport Racer on an extended loan. We only have three weeks with the car but have plenty planned, including a trip to Spa, which led us nicely to a Jim Clark POTW. The final Lotus since Monday was a beautiful Elan spotted in the classifieds, spurred on by Matt's Goodwood Members' Meet experience.
This week we were treated to an update on Chris's other Ferrari, the fiendishly costly 512TR. A point reinforced by this Panda 100HP being for sale at the same price of Chris's servicing bill...
In our regular features slots this week there was a Renault Clio 200 in Carpool, a VolvoS40 T4 as Shed and a PH Buying Guide on the recently replaced Maserati Quattroporte. Shed's been particularly busy this week, contributing a comprehensive used car sellingchecklist; buying or selling used, PH has you covered!
And a final few interesting news bits for you. PH has established a track day partnership with RMA, we have a new PH shop offer and the return of PistonFest. More of the same next week!
