August already! This month we have Wilton Classic Supercar to look forward to, the return of the BTCC from its summer break and the opulence of Pebble Beach as well. Throughout of course there will be as many reviews and stories as can be created.
This week there's been lots of cars going sideways, self-driving cars and used cars under the microscope as secondhand bargains. See it all here!
Sideways is cool. Not fast but quite a thing to witness or even attempt There's been much opposite lockery on PH this week; following the behind the scenes story from BMW's
Driftmob
shoot, the finished video can be seen
here.
From synchornised slithering on a South African roundabout to the far less glamorous surroundings of a Polish airport. Here is where Harald Muller spent 90 miles sideways in a GT86, setting a new world drift record in the process. After seeing Harris teach us all the basics in an M235i, he could surely give Mr Muller a run for his money. Maybe.
We've even dabbled in some FWD oversteer with in a Leon Cupra v Megane Trophy comparison. Turns out Bedford is really, really slippery when wet. Don't forget to see both cars on a great stretch of B-road for this week's POTW.
Being far more sensible for just a second, Wednesday saw a government announcement about
self-driving car trials
. Good, that's dealt with at least.
It's been at least a week since we've talked about the Nurburgring. It was back in the headlines on Wednesday when Land Rover announced a frankly ludicrous 8min 14sec lap for the new Range Rover Sport SVR. It has fulfilled its sensible obligations too with confirmation the Discovery Sport will have seven seats. Jaguar is also keen to highlight the environmental credentials of the imminent XE.
But that's enough of the practical stuff. We have a PH Buying Guide on the Honda S2000 as well, a 138,000-mile TVR Sagaris and an old Jag XJR primed for some powersliding practice. Really.
This is an hour from Glasgow
The news that Chris's videos will move to subscription only has predictably generated a lot of discussion. See the response in the
blog here
Elsewhere Matt has shared a Scottish Dream Drive, Dan is doing some pre-emptive classifieds hunting and PH has also met the man behind Akrapovic. There's another pair of £100K Garages (Monday here and Thursday), Shed has come across a Ginetta plus an update on the Fleet Elise also.
Finally, Wilton Classic Supercar is now just over a week away. See you there!
