Late January means the World Rally Championship is about to kick off, with the Monte Carlo rally starting tomorrow. Ordinarily this would be an excuse for us to have a good rummage through the YouTube vault to find some classic action from the Good Old Days. When men were men, sideburns were bushy, and you could get a static shock from standing within six feet of a nylon rally jacket.
Kubica clearly only has one speed
But then we found this: some truly spectacular video of Robert Kubica putting his Fiesta WRC through its paces at the official test a couple of days ago. For all the criticism that's sometimes levelled at modern rally cars, there's no doubting they are seriously good at what they do. And you can't watch this without having full respect for both the ex-F1 driver's fully nailed commitment and the ability of the Fiesta's suspension to shrug off spectacular high-speed abuse as chunks are gouged out of the skidplates.
It just pipped another video from the test that we'd advise you to check out if you've got time - Francois Delecour's shakedown of the Tuthill prepped Porsche 911 R-GT. Watch it if you get the chance. Fingers crossed for a good year of rallying.
