For those that haven't been, the Festival is a mix of classic car show,
commercial show and demonstration races up the hill climb. Plenty of the major
manufacturers now attend with impressive stands showing their wares and like all
events these days the corporate hospitality mob are there in force laying it on
for the suits. Further stands from car clubs and specialists selling everything
from chamois leathers to rare Aston Martins are positioned around the grounds. A
huge one-manufacturer showpiece is present in front of Goodwood House with
Renault providing the cars this year. Around one side of the house is the
paddock for the various race cars with other show cars parked on the other side
together with gravity powered the 'soap boxes' that also provide a unique
spectable in unpowered racing.
The motorsport aspect of the Festival consists of cars tearing up the road
that disects the grounds and disappearing up the hill at one end. Cars from
every era are present from the earliest horseless carriages to the latest
Formula One cars. There are plenty of personalities driving the cars and the
relaxed atmosphere, sunshine and plethora of exotica make it a fascinating day
out.
