Today Land Rover has confirmed it will again support the Race2Recovery team of injured ex-servicemen in the 2014 Dakar Rally. Following a
successful 2013 campaign
, where they were the first disabled crew to complete the Dakar, the team will tackle Argentina, Chile and Bolivia from 5th January.
Team will use Bowler Wildcats once more
Land Rover and Race2Recovery will enter two Bowler Wildcats in the Dakar, plus a T4 support truck. Parts, logistics, vehicle and financial support during 2014 for the team will be provided by Land Rover. Moreover, the partnership looks set to strengthen further with Race2Recovery also competing in next year's
Defender Challenge
Exactly as Bowler and Land Rover intended, the Race2Recovery Challenge entry will prepare competitors for rally raid events, in this case the toughest of them all. Land Rover's Global Brand Experience Director Mark Cameron said the Challenge 'provides the perfect platform to train new recruits in a competitive environment and build their training and expertise ready for the Dakar.'
Tony Harris, Founder of Race2Recovery, commented on the parnership: 'I am absolutely thrilled with Land Rover's continued support enabling us to compete in next year's Dakar. We learnt an awful lot from this year's race and we will use that learning to continue providing a platform for ex-servicemen to achieve the extraordinary following injury.'
Race2Recovery will again be raising awareness for the Tedworth House Personnel Recovery Centre and Help for Heroes. If you want to sponsor the guys on their epic adventure, there's a host of way to do so. See their website at www.race2recovery.com to donate or text 'HERO' to 70900 to pledge £5. They're on Twitter, Google+ and Facebook also. Updates on the team's progress to follow, and good luck to all those involved!
