If you plan to stick the sports car away for the winter then you may want to
talk to Adrian Flux Insurance. The company has just launched a scheme called
'Lay Up Cover' and it means you no longer have to pay 12 months road insurance
if your car is laid up for several months each year.
Flux specialises in specialist insurance cover, anything from classic cars to
high performance motors, so plenty of its clients lay up their cars over the
winter. "It clearly isn't fair that insurance underwriters expect these
motorists to keep their full road insurance on the go, even though their vehicle
spends over half it's life wrapped in cotton wool in a nice safe garage,"
said Gerry Buck of Flux.
"Before, the only alternative to paying the full amount for 12 months
was to cancel your insurance," he added. "But that has two
problems: one, you'll pay penalties, and two, your car isn't covered if
something happens to it.
"So it was pay the lot, or pay a lot and risk your motor. That's why
we decided to develop the 'Lay Up' Scheme."
What 'Lay Up' covers is accidental damage, fire and theft, provided the
vehicle is housed in a garage. When you want to take the car out on the road,
you simply call Flux and increase the cover to include road risk.
