My Mum-in-law is the sweetest, nicest lady you could ever wish to meet and I love her dearly. My father-in-law is one of the most honest, decent and fine upstanding men I know.

I am sooo lucky.

Mine is very nice. When my father in law died about 10 years ago, she treats me like the head of the family, always asking my advice and guidence on all sorts of matters, letting me take monumental decisons on her families behalf (helping find partners - managing long-term investments - her pension etc.). She has been more helpful and supportive than my own parents on many occasions, and genuinely feel like her own son.

My mother in law was always lovely while we were married, but he did the dirty on me and i left and she hasnt spoken to me since!! Not even a phone call to see if I was ok after what her precious son did to me! Oh well, her loss as I am a nice person.

best bit of advice.

If you want to see how your wife will turn out. Just take a look at her mother.

Wish I had known that then.

My mother-in-law died suddenly about six months ago. When she died I sobbed like a baby, because I was as close to her as my own parents. Equally, my wife is extremely close to my mother. The words 'in-law' were dropped many years ago in both cases.

Within reason that's bang on. Luckily I'm pretty damn happy on that front.

Unfortunately its true of us blokes too - we turn out not far off our Dads. My Dad is a sterling bloke - but I'll need to work to make sure I don't get his gut when I'm in my sixties/seventies.

My sincerest condolences. I'll be the same when the time finally comes.

Sorry to buck the trend of replies on this thread but to be diplomatic about it we don't get on.

You know Dobi who just walked out of I'm a celebrity? well the mother in law could teach her a thing or 2 about being the center of attention.

What's your problem? He is saying that his mother in law treats him with a great deal of respect, and has a great deal of respect for his opinions. So what's your point?
