As the title says, 4 litres of 5W30 fully synthetic oil at Halfords for £10 in their sale, down from £40.

I have bought 6 - you can never have too much oil smile

No need to worry, it's good oil.

It's made by Comma. Not too shabby.

I seem to recall reading a while ago that the Halfords branded stuff from Comma was a hydrocracked "fully synth" rather than ester based... although AIUI that only matters if you're really going to be stressing it (and all the usual caveats about things on the internet being wrong, formulations changing over time, etc all apply).

Unfortunately no offers on any 10w40 other then the usual few £ off. Shame, as I get through the stuff at an alarming rate hehe

My local one is doing 4l 10w40 for £10, same as the 5w30 and other Halfords oil? Maybe yours has sold out - it's the 4l bottles, not the regular 5l ones.

The 5W30 seems to be the only one that is fully synthetic.

The other grades are part synthetic, and not so much of a bargain.

Use the Reserve and Collect feature on Halfords website to check availability, and also to get them to put it aside for you for 24 hours. I'm picking up 6 tubs tomorrow morning, along with some other good sale items.

A 0W or 5W would be ok if there're on offer.

The grades being listed as 4 litres for £10 are:

- 5W30 fully synthetic;

- 5W30 part synthetic; and

- 10W40 part synthetic.

Good time to stock up on tools, they had socket sets on very good offers in my local halfords today (don't seem to be on the website). The pro tools are excellent.

Just noticed this and wondered if any of these would be ok to use in a Saab 9-3 2.0ltr turbo petrol? It's moderately tuned. If so I'll nip and stock up.

Olly

I can't remember what to put in her you see.

Owned by Mobil. They put a tiny percentage of Mobils disgarded 'bottom of the barrel' synthetic into recycled oil and call it 'semi synthetic' and sell it to Halfords and supermarkets!

I suspect that their fully synthetic is better, but its enough to put me off the firm and their products. The source was a Mobil technical rep, for the doubters, know-it-alls / PH bed-wetters looking to disagree.

IMO fancy branded oil = cheap engine insurance.

Over the life of a car "expensive" as opposed to "cheap" oil changes make almost no difference whatsoever to the overall running cost, most of which is fuel and depreciation.

I use fancy oil with OEM filters and just suck up the small extra expense. Have I ever had an engine wear problem? No.

AKA don't order the cheap stuff, order the Mobil 1. I will spin you a tale to make you think you're getting a good deal.
