I like that, if it was a V40 I'd have bought it but I'm still tempted to go and have a look at it because I'm certain that it will outlast an awful lot of cars.

I've given up hope of finding an X300/X308 I like that doesnt have starship miles on it or a list of faults that are 'easy fix, havent got the time'

Instead I'm looking into big 4x4s, there's a Ford Explorer not far from me for under 4 figures. Seems to be a lot of car for the money

Short test put me off this one http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2013...

I also threw in a casual bid on a 3000GT til t went outside of Basement Budget

Brave man! If you had won that I can imagine it may have turned out to be a world of pain.

It's a struggle not to pop over for a squizz meself. Fear I may regret not doing so.

With no disrespect to the guy who bought the 4.2, I reckon buying V12 is another BIG jump up the brave scale. With a 4.2 theres not much engine realted bork to worrk about, just all the other BL nastys. However throw in a V12 under the bonnet...

You'd have to have big cajones no? Especially with no mention of MOT or Tax.
It might have been, had I not posted it on Monday hehe

Guessing your AutoTrader strategy is the same as mine:

- Filter to max price £1000
- Start working down the engine size filter from "5L+" downwards

Unless that's totally buggered, that's got track slag written all over it.

Don't worry, no offence taken. A V12 would just be a bit too mad, even by my standards. Plus I do love the old xk engine so I'm happy with mine. And the colour is called Antelope by the way...

Alternator crocked, which is a bugger of a job on the 9-5 (not sure if it's the same on these) but other than that, mega bargain!

They are a lovely lump! I've got a 4.2 in my watch list...however the more pressing concern is the crusty Bentley i'm currently "winning"...

Sounds like you're onto a winner either way. I'll look forward to comparing notes...

I know what you mean, but they're still quite solid things IMO. Especially when compared to some of their contemporaries.

The 1.8 I owned had a bloody awful manual gearbox and the turning circle of an oil tanker. But it did really decent mpg on the m'way (40s), had cruise, aircon, comfy seats, good stereo etc. They're decent enough for < £1k
