The readings show that my engine passes fast idle and 2.5-3k rev tests, but not natural idle where it was way too rich.....
That actually sounds good. The problems start when you have it set spot on Lambda 1 but the co or HC are out which makes it very difficult to solve. In your case it just sounds like the map needs a tweek at idle.Steve

Hope so Steve - I did feel some roughness when idling and up to 2k revs - bit like an occasional misfire - instead of the target of 0.30 it was showing 1.4 which is rather extreme.Steve
Hoping Paul Spinks will come up on Sat to take a butchers!
Retest is wednesday if I can make it and Paul said he would attend if I like 'mit' laptop in hand!
Trouble is that it is a heck of a long way for him ... 300 miles!

The other week we had a customer sitting in the passenger seat with laptop as Richard ran the car on the rollers. The laptop was connected via our wifi to someone in the midlands who was doing the remapping.Trouble is that it is a heck of a long way for him ... 300 miles!

"Tooth" or "Teeth"? It looks to me that there are a good few missing just in what you can see in the pic.
Do you know what has caused it? I know my starter has a couple of chipped teeth but nothing on the flywheel.
There is only one tooth missing but the others are a bit chewed!Do you know what has caused it? I know my starter has a couple of chipped teeth but nothing on the flywheel.
No idea of the cause but there could be quite a few possible reasons. Backfire during starting, faulty starter casing (which failed), weak ring from earlier damage, it could be any or all of these, or something else.
The new ring and starter are now awaiting refitting to the car tomorrow. The starter has been replaced under warranty (thanks Factory).

Keith, if you need a rolling road and a tuner after IVA, I have used a guy in Redditch, top man and my car runs like a dream now.
He does the tuning for a bmw/LS conversion company in birmingham and a lot of drift cars.
Hope the retest goes ok

Sounds like a plan Dave! Can you PM me the details? He does the tuning for a bmw/LS conversion company in birmingham and a lot of drift cars.

My first hurdle is the retest on emissions.
Paul came up yesterday and scratched his head... the lamda settings were all as originally mapped and consistent. He can only think JS has put a cam in this with big overlaps, and it is throwing fuel into the system, which is something he cant test for. Soo....he has managed to get readings up to 18.5 at idle without upsetting fast idle, to try to take as much fueling out as he can without the engine stopping at idle... Problem is I will not know until I get it to Notts all the way from Cheltenham!
Seems stupid that I can't find an easy and accurate way of finding out at mine!
And there's the next problem...finding someone with a big enough trailer to get it there...my reg guy can't do it next week..
If it doesn't work, then looks like I am going to have to change the damn cam myself, which I am not looking forward to!

Just to make the readers aware, our factory recommended LS1, LS3 and LS7 engines from American Speed, including the 700bhp version are all guaranteed to pass emissions when fitted with our factory exhaust system and accessories. There is no remapping required for IVA or future MOTs.
Regards to all,
I have to say that I've never understood why people do not go with the "Factory Options"Regards to all,

Because these cars are unique and many people will like to do something a little out-of-the-box.... with the best will in the world, the factory won't be able to cover everyone's needs / wants.GTRMikie said:

A lot depends on your facilities and abilities. If you are building in a single garage and have no fabrication/engineering/electrical/welding/composite experience (or the desire/will to learn) then the Factory route will allow you to build a quality finished article.
Some of us have found the challenge of doing things differently an interesting and enjoyable experience and have learned a lot in the process.
Ted will tell you you are not just buying a car but a hobby. Join a golf club and your annual membership will leave you with nothing to show for your year of hitting a little ball round a manicured lawn. Build your own car and you will be amazed at what knowledge you will acquire and you will have a thing of beauty you can use for years.

Just reading on these emissions failures at idle - a few suggestions based on my experience with my XTR
If the same as when I was at Leighton Buzzard the test probe is very short and if fitting into a large bore exhaust it is not getting a true reading.
The exhaust actually pulses at idle pulling in and pumping out air.
At my 3rd attempt, just on emissions with everything else passed, I took the chap who mapped the car and he was appalled by the set up and not surprised it failed.
He soaked a cloth in water and wrapped it around the probe filling the exit of the exhaust.
The car then passed with no adjustment required.
Also the tester may ask for the engine to be very hot. This is not ideal. Many maps will actually enrichen the mixture at high temps.
Also double check that you have no leaks in any exhaust joins. A tiny leak and you will also fail the test.
Anyway I hope that you pass next time.
