There is currently a PH'er doing it. He's a good man, good driver and you can't tar everyone with the same brush - that cuts both ways on here.
He may be a good man, but he lacks good judgement.

This event has a history of being populated by complete idiots and it is best avoided by anyone with a conscience, or any sense of class and style.

Big mistake IMO

i'd imagine for the £30k entrance fee it's either posh boys spending daddies money or rich execs and celebrities with more money than sense to care
<Cough>

The what?!

Blimey...
it's £30k to enter the Gumball 3000 2013 for a car with two occupants

in 2008 it was $120k

think it was £60k an £75k only a few years ago

£30k entry fee confrimed by Tim aka shmee150 who is entered in this years Gumball in his Ribena Audi R8 V10

I doubt he cares.

It's a personal choice (like the number plates)... I know what history says, and it's not for me, but I'm not going to categorise someone by an event they are on. Unless it' an EDF/KKK rally... hehe

Maybe. The event therefore collects like-minded people - in other words, people who don't care.

Innocent bystanders have been killed in the past by these cretins. Ordinary people going about their business in a quiet country, killed by some moron doing nine hundred leptons in a liveried cock extension.

I love performance cars and driving. And I would willingly burn this whole charade with fire.

The event used to attract big sponsors but I think they've been frightened off because of the general cockness of the organisers and participants.

It is a bell-end convention; a gathering of clowns, a collection of cocks.

It is where every bad thing about performance cars, every single cringe worthy thing you've ever seen associated with sports cars, every activity you would prefer not to be associated with, all brought together in one event.

I've done proper car rallies. I've crossed countries in fast cars with fellow enthusiasts.

This is not a car rally. It is a cock-fest.

Because of the history? Or because of the two cars that hydroplaned on horrible roads? (And the fact the Finnish Police didn't want them in the country?)

Lets just say that some very connected hyper-car and classic car owners in my acquaintance have passed on some hair raising experiences of past events to me. These are people who refuse to be associated with the event any more.

I wish all the participants good luck and safe journeys, free of incidents. If only for their own safety, their families and bystanders. I will leave it there. smile

Gum ball reminds me of all the chavs you used to get around mcdonalds/ supermarket car parks with their modified corsas and saxos every evening..... Except with more money.

The 'pack' mentality, distasteful stickered up/ modified cars, general disregard for other road users and inappropriately showing off. No difference in my mind.....

Nope, but only one gumballer has in the history of the event which as sad as it is, could quite easily have happened had the same person been driving around showing off in their home country, not as part of the rally. You can't tar all gumballers with the same brush.

I know one of the drivers, and he is a lovely chap. He is a modest, successful businessman and PHer, who takes great pleasure in driving his cars. He is always to be found at the charity days, giving rides to the public.

Are you referring to the guy who crashed into a local couple in their Golf, killing them, then had the help of another gumballer to attempt to sprint out of the country, leaving the scene so as not to face the Police, as the rally organisers stuck their head in the sand while they and the rest of the rally carried on regardless?

And this was just the event that hit the press. Not to mention the myriad of other "incidents" that have occurred over the years...

They are all lovely people, I'm sure..

Some of you guys must be boring as hell?!? Although I do agree, a lot of Gumballers are probably dicks with too much money, the parties alone would be worth the entry fee! Didn't they end up at the Playboy Mansion one year...c'mon, what guy doesn't want to party at the Playboy Mansion!

If I had the cash, I'd do it without question. It would a laugh, don't take it so serious! Though obviously if innocent people get hurt, that isn't so funny.

I can't think of anything worse to spend my money on.
Agreed. A season of Super Trofeo would seem to be a better bet.

I really do wonder about this forum.

A bunch of petrolheads driving some exotic cars for a 3000 mile rally, with an interesting social scene to go with it.

Sounds like my idea of a good time?

How many pistonheads members have crashed, how many have spun or crashed on track? How many have been caught out by extreme weather conditions?

Zzzz
Nobody is saying they don't like driving. Not that I can see anyway.
