She's completely different in the books! I'm confused as to what she is doing with Gendry now, well, I know what she is doing but - it's not meant to be him, I'm hoping that this change was cleared with GRRM & he didn't have other plans for him.

No you're not, but, like with the first song on Eurovision, it was too early in the programme to be memorable for me! Thanks for reminding me, it was a nice scene.

He's just swapping places with Edric (sp?). Though it does sort of give the nod that Gendry is out of the books in any meaningful way...not that I could have seen him having an impact anyway, he was just one of many bds of Robert who wanted to be a smith who bowed out early.

Yes, Gendry has swapped placed with Edric, but Gendry's story hadn't finished (IMHO). I'm feeling a bit more settled over it after she only used the leeches, as that leaves it open still

I'm re-reading the books again at the same time, it is quote amusing how things are all happening at the same time but in a (slightly) different order to the book eg Sansa's wedding is after Edmure's in the book, I've not got to her wedding yet, but have just re-read Edmure's, shame they have done that as IMHO Sansa being told of her Uncle's wedding on her Wedding day was an important factor in what happened next to her...

I am really enjoying the 3rd season (as is my GF who has just come into it - even if I spend most of my time with 'pause' pressed as I answer another question about who someone is and who they are related to/connected with? )

The character development is fantastic - with new one's being added all the time that gives real depth. Daario is brilliant - I am looking forward to seeing how his relationship develops with what's her name (assuming it does, as I have not read the books)

I think Melisandre's magic is connected up with sexuality. Like Varys getting his bits chopped off so that Warlock could chat to whatever. I hadn't realised she had bedded Stannis to make the shadow, but it makes sense. I think the show reveals some of the subtext of the books.
