I started a thread 3 months ago for information on getting a 335i

I have been looking everyday since, to find one to purchase.

In that time I have found only one single car that meets the spec, and that was already sold.

Daily I am looking on:

BMW Approved site
Autotrader
Pistonheads
Motors.co.uk
Ebay
E90Post forum Classifieds

Am I missing the place where all these cars are being sold? where else is there I can look?

I am almost at the point of giving up on this quest!

What spec? Saloon/Cabrio/Touring?

I held out for (what felt like) ages to get one with the spec I wanted, but after a few months snapped and went and bought the best of the bunch that were in my budget.
That's the point I'm very nearly at!

I'm after;

Coupe
M-sport
Manual (or DCT but probably out of budget)
New generation iDrive

Preferably Blue, but would take Grey or black with a nice interior choice

All the ones I find with this spec, seem to be 2010 models far over 20K

Took me months (3 years ago) to find mine. Was after a manual touring in a discrete colour. In the end I had to settle for no leather to keep on budget.

That's pretty much what everyone is looking for (or at least what I presume anyone who wants a 335i Coupe). I bet there are ton of people like me with cash lying around just waiting for the perfect spec to come up, so if anything becomes available, it gets snapped quickly. You've basically listed the most sought after spec smile I had to wait about 6 months to find a 330Ci that I was happy with (every single option except folding mirrors) although I'm very fussy. Best advice I can give you - hang in there and your car will pop up, eventually!

C3m..folding mirrors?...deal breaker ...
..As for the spec, you are after what everyone wants, most will slip through without you getting a sniff. The dealers know they shift as quick as they come in the door so are going to milk every penny they can out of you. Chill, take your time , even if you're still looking in the autumn, you've not splashed the cash and maybe your budget might have increased too by then. I was lucky and picked up a 330i by just timing... I look now and I would need 2k more cash to get what I bought.......good luck

It might be the sought after spec, I just wish that was what people ordered when they were new!

I have seen now two blue DCT models without the nav!

Oh, yeah, absolutely - I'm personally in no hurry, enjoying my 330Ci in the meantime. Patience is key, I believe - especially if you're fussy about spec.

This is just my guess but maybe the people who ordered top spec like their cars too much to sell them? The 335i is a damn good motor.

Took a long time to find one.

The wife and I wanted one with a sunroof and A/C and Satnav. BMW dealer said it couldn't be done. 1 month later said it could be. We were lucky as we haven't seen another since. Persevere, they are out there.

M sport 335i is rare anyway as most were SE. The e92 SE comes with sports seats and m sport suspension anyway so the difference is really cosmetic. Manuals are few and far between as well so you're searching for a pretty rare car. Add in colour preference and spec requirements and it may take some time to find the right car.

To be honest the auto box suits the engine quite well and its the first auto I've owned .

Agree with most of the above but is it really true that most E92 335i's were SE's not Sports? The Sport wasn't available for the first few months after the E92 was launched - and therefore all 2006 cars and many of the early 2007 cars will be SE's - but once the Sport was introduced I would have thought that that was likely to be the more popular model?

I think the root of your problem is that 335i's were/are just rare cars to start with.

Then any more specific criteria will only make finding one harder.

Looking at your list, wouldn't the updated I drive mean you are looking at an LCI car? Straight away you are taking about 3 years worth of 335i out of the equation. Do you really find the earlier I drive that bad or are there other elements of the LCI update you want?

I think the hardest bit though will be the manual gearbox. The vast majority of 335i's are automatic which does suit this type of car/engine very well and the paddle shift brings a lot more fun than a std torque converter box (albeit still not as engaging as a manual).

I was looking for a 335i manual M sport touring last October but the very few manuals that did come up had poverty spec ( no nav, no leather etc). In the end, I found a lovely example that actually surpassed my minimum spec except for being an auto. I decided this was something I could compromise on so went for it. No regrets yet!

I think you will have to either wait a long time (1 car in 3 months?) or consider making some kind of compromise.

Good luck either way!

iDrive was updated in builds from Sep 2008 across the whole E9x range but only E90+91 got facelifted for the MY09, the E92 LCI was MY10 (thus there was 1 year of production of pre-LCI E92 with CIC based iDrives).

I got my 335 coupe at the end of April. Spent ages looking for one with the right spec. Eventually found a 60 plate that had all four alloys replaced under warranty (2.5K!) and this was what swung it for me, along with the fact that the same car had been advertised at £3500 more earlier this year. Think I got a good deal and love the car!

Same spec as mine was - took months to find it. Cars built after September 2008 had the new iDrive but there was a LOT of pre-built stock registered late so most 58 and 09 plate cars were pre Sep 08.

Eventually found a '58 plate Le Mans Blue 335i M Sport with manual box and the new iDrive.

You may be right and perhaps it was the price point I was looking at, but I saw very few m sports for sale. Personally prefer the SE bumpers but I know I may be in a minority.

On a separate note, later iDrive with usb and direct ipod control would definitely be better though. Early iDrive only has 5 digit postcode for a start.

As an active member on E90Post, I think that's probably true. Because the 335x SE models came with sports suspension and seats as standard, there wasn't really much point paying the premium for the MSport trim.

FWIW the SE front bumper with the Aero lip is the best front end available for an E9x. I'd honestly encourage you to go look at a few SE models and see if they're really any different to what you want.

So does the new iDrive on the E92 until about 2012 frown
