It looks like a staircase.
Spiral staircase in the Taihang Mountains. At the boundary between the provinces of Shanxi and Henan, China.
This spiral staircase of almost 100 meters have been installed recently in an attempt to attract thousands of tourists each year to the beautiful Taihang Mountains.
Before undertaking the ascent visitors are asked to sign forms to ensure they do not have heart or lung problems, and are under age 60.
If you like ^^^ this kind of stuff, do a google search for "yellow mountain china", I'm based out here for the next 6 months in Shanghai and after travelling over to pay the mountains a visit I said fook that after 30mins of dodgy paths up the side of the sheer cliff faces.
From talking to colleagues who live out here some of the stuff higher up is just clean nuts, in some cases with no railing/barriers and if you've spent any time in China you'll be used to how much they like to just bump into you and push past you.
I can't imagine that would be much fun on a set of wooden poles a few feet wide poking out the side of a cliff face with several hundred feet of freefall before you see what you're going to pancake yourself on down below...!!!

Anyway, as you were...

I have no issue in saying that I already filled the bags waaaaaay below getting anywhere near that stage of the climb, it was already over the top stupidness much further down the mountain and I decided to throw in the towel and retreat back to terra firma, relax in the sun for a while until it was time to catch my bus back to the train station and return to the relative safety of Shanghai
I'm more than happy to enjoy the photos other nutbars have taken from up the top where the mountains are poking out above the clouds...

We've had photos of the Spanish version on this thread. It's just as stupidly dangerous. I just cannot see the fun in it. Whenever I get close to a sheer drop, all that I can think of is this terrifying idea that I might impulsively hurl myself off before being able to stop. Also camino del ray(sp) in spain is a cool one, a few of my mates flew out just to do it but i couldnt afford it at the time
Scary!
