Oh ok, that's not so much of a consideration then.

What do we think of the Price Vs. Mileage?

bump for this thread

looking at getting myself one of these - around 2007/2008 model & auto gearbox

anything around £15k for 40k miles on the clock seems reasonable to me

would defo consider an extended warranty as well

will let you know how i get on

Hi all, rather than starting a new thread I thought i'd ask here - what sort of things should I look for when buying these, common faults etc that might be easy to pick up on a viewing/test drive?

My budget is around about 12k so looking at higher mileage 06/07 vehicles.

Will be coming from a MK5 Golf R32, how would the running costs compare between the two? (Tax is highest band on the golf, servicing is reasonable with a major service being around £350 at a specialist and minor services being £160 at main dealer). Fuel economy should be similar i'd imagine but it's not an issue.

Is a warranty an absolute must? I'd rather pay £600 a year than potentially be forking out large sums of money for turbos etc

@folos, it's anecdotal evidence but guy I know who bought an 09 plate with v/low mileage broke down twice. I know he's had problems with high pressure fuel pump and from what the mechanic said, the bills would have been sky high, had they not been able to get the work done by BMW. His was a warranty he bought from BMW after the 3 year warranty expired. It was less than £500 so he was smiling.
on an older car, even if the known issues have been repaired, I'd get a warranty.
Hope this helps.

Thanks, sounds just like any car - some have issues that are blown out of proportion on the internet. Some would have you to believe that the second you drive off in an R32 the DSG box will explode and the timing chain will snap but touch wood i've had no issues with mine at all, as regards to servicing should I find myself a good independent as BMW will rob me blind?

You might find your local dealer is open to negotiate on pricing for servicing. I've been able to play one off against the other and drive prices right down.

I only use them to preserve the FBMWSH on my car. Whether that's a good thing or not is another story!

@folos, I clicked your profile and it says Wales. If you are South, Forza West near Chepstow are a very highly thought of BMW specialists. check for good references on this site. They could probably give you a good insight into known issues to look out for when buying used 335i.

Hi Folos. My 335i goes tomorrow in px for my new M135i. Its an 08 plate with 100k on the clock. Servicing shouldn't scare you too much compared to your R32. I have had a few problems with mine, not sure how common my problems were..... Car is currently occasionally losing pressure in the turbos which is probably due to the waste gates showing excessive wear. At idle you can hear a very slight rattle, esp when you first start it up. You need the windows or door open to hear it though. The memory on the seat and mirror has never been great either so Id suggest making sure everything (esp offside door mirror) stay where you leave them if you get out, lock it and get back in. I also got three injectors changed under a recall.

Anyway its a great car, sure you'll enjoy it. Oh and real life fuel economy was 28mpg for my wife and me over last 3 years.

I bought a 335i SE and fitted the BMW Aero Front skirt to it. Looks much better than the M-Sport IMO (note this also has colour coded grilles and black lower grilles).

That looks very nice, hope your still enjoying the car.

Nice interior. Also 1 post in 57 months is some top lurking.

Slightly out of my budget that (12k, I wouldn't want to insult you!), though it looks very very nice. Might have to do some OT in work as finding an m-sport manual in at least a half decent spec seems VERY hard - nevermind a saloon which is my preference!

Have you considered a 335iSE saloon? They look to be quite a lot cheaper than equivalent-age M Sports.

I'm looking to get into a late 2006 / early 2007 SE with c. 60k miles and personally I quite like the SE styling. Have a quick look on the usual websites to see what they are going for...

There's some about like the ones i'll paste below, but something doesn't seem quite right about them? Can't put my finger on it..

If you really want an M Sport stretch and get the one a couple of posts above, it's definitely an honest car.

As his is a 57 plate, I believe it is £200 less road tax than the earlier cars so there is a saving for the future (although his has a whole year of tax to run so no expense in that dept for a while), it has 8 months AUC warranty saving you £50 or so a month on the BMW Insured Warranty assuming you would want to get that cover (8*50=£400) so your £12k plus the 'calculated' £620 and you are at £12620... might be worth getting on the phone to him and seeing what you can agree between you as I am sure the chap is a little bit negotiable.

Not all 57 plate 335i's are lower road tax. Some are and some are not - check each individual car to be sure.

I am getting very bored of looking for a coupe with newer Nav.

Is it feasible to upgrade?

as I might go and look at this if so:

Or this, although it's in flipping Wales!

Although mine is pretty much priced pretty well already, I'm always happy to talk negotiations.

It is feasible to upgrade the nav, and it's DIY job if you're reasonably competent...you want to go off and google 'CIC Nav retrofit / upgrade'
