Top end overhaul,
Check condition of rockers, shaft etc.
What cam, I recommend The Real Steel Typhoon.
If you're spending, the sky's the limit.
I have to agree with phazed. He also recommended that Cam to me. It's a cracker, really smooth and eliminated a lot of shunting.Check condition of rockers, shaft etc.

Whilst I was in there, I also had the timing gear done, adjustable push rods and standard followers as well as all gaskets. I wouldn't other with the high rev followers, they sound rubbish apparently and the standard ones are up to the job anyway (unless you're building a monster).

Hi rev lifters are required but not those Rhoads bleed down jobbies. They are noisy and not required.
Adjustable pushrods may be required depending on the state of your heads. But usually a shim kit can get valve lash within acceptable limits.
Where abouts in Scotland are you?
Bring the car to me and i will fit your cam kit cheaper than any garage

I'm looking into replacing my cam on a '97 400 and was considering the MC1 which other threads recommend but I like the sound of the Typhoon although there appears to be alot of other work needed. Is all this necessary?
DW270 Viper Typhoon Hydraulic Camshaft Price:£142.06
Ideal for use with a Holley 390, stage 2 heads, Edelbrock or Offenhauser manifold, Rhoads, 1-1/2" headers, 9.75 compression pistons
and a Mallory distributor. Dyno tested on a 3.5 litre with all the above mods gave 252 bhp @ 6000 rpm. Installation: use DW060 valve
springs, in some cases shimming may be required. Machine the top off the valve guides (.100") or use shortened hi-flow guides DW125
& DW135. Use DW400 shims or AZ1005 adjustable pushrods to set lifter preload. All preload setting info supplied with each camshaft.

Most TVR heads are ready for this cam without work. I would need confirmation if the 400 has double valve springs. If so then its makes the job simpler. Not a big problem to remove the heads and sort them for new springs. Be an opportunity to do a little extra work and gain a few more bhp at the same time DW270 Viper Typhoon Hydraulic Camshaft Price:£142.06

Then a shim kit would be ok. Adjustable pushrods are an added expense that may not be necessary.
