.Mark...Just a thought, how about trying The Criterion (Marco-Pierre White) in Piccadilly? It'll cost you a small fortune but is highly recommended. Perhaps you could make a weekend of it and treat Jo to a West End show and an overnight stay!

Er, right, Cheers Roz,
Hope she never reads this, and if you think about mentioning this next week to her face I'll have to make up some scandalous lies about you

Joking aside though, we have been considering something like this for a while, any hotels with secure parking and valets that don't bumper-park around there?

Good pub, freindly darts team. Used to eat there when Ewuan and Steve ran it.

Try the Lone barn/Fox and Hounds in Hungerford bottom/Old Burseldon. Good carparking, but, be careful as the the concrete ramp ends and the gravel starts. Bit of a drop in the middle, but the left hand side is OK.

Nuff said about the Robin Hood - went there for lunch with my son and they wanted £12 for a Burger - hmmmm, I think not. Will never go there again.

But was it not the best burger? And at £12 only double that of a cardboard McDonalds.
Well true its not cheap, but I found the food, service excellent and I know the cheff is held in high regard.

Talk of expensive. Try Around the World @ Colden Common. Good fish. The owner nows his cars - test driver for Lola, Raced GT40s etc mind blowing.

Theres a 5 good resturaunts in Fareham High Street now.
(The High Street is the one with old buildings, lampposts etc. not the ugly shopping precient).

I can recommend the Italian half way up the road called Romano (I think). And if all the resturaunts are busy there is always a new "Ask" resturaunt at the end to fall back on.

The Black Dog in Waltham Chase (near bottom of A32) used to do good pub meals, not been for a while though.

Becketts Wine bar in Southsea used to be one of my favorites for food too but again I havent been there for a while.

As for the Indian Garden in Locks Heath...I was there just last week. Most of the people I went with were new to it and said "its like being in a hotel conference room!".
The food and service is good though, if a little mild. Had the Madras and it wasnt even slightly hot.
The best Indian IMO is the Indian Cottage in Port Solent but its not an "after pub curry" type place, more for dining than scoffing.

and how could I forget the Little chef on the A32. The service is fantastic, a bit like a certain hotel in Torquay!

Dusty - Edwins is pretty good too but a bit pricey IMO.

In Portsmouth, Flounders is good for seafood, The Kashmir curry house on Palmerston Road is good for post pub food.

Regginas in Botley does a good Italian as does Ennios on West Quay Road in Southampton.

was in there only last week and food and service excellant. Handy for me as only a £5 taxi fare away.

Whilst I'm not sure it represents good value for money, I guess Cams Palace wouldnt make a bad spot for a nice PHer meet. The duck is good in there
and we can all walk back to Mungo's pad to save on taxis

would be amusing if we all went for dinner in there.

I am not going to keep going on about the indian garden but I have found the food to be very up and down. The location is shite, as is the layout. The service has always been good but the curries have been up and down ever since it opened. One night a great curry, the next week a very mild wattery excuse. I did wonder if they employ a number of different chefs. Very hit and miss.

Is that the one halfway along on the left if walking towards the sea? If so that place does excellent food.

Shnozz, Kams palace does do excellent food but recently their portions have got a bit small. Didnt used to mind paying a bit over the usually for Kams because they always brought out more than I could eat, but now Im always left hungry.
The food is very good though. Infact its the best chinese food I have ever had (except that in China!).

Where is this Italian in Botley? Might have to make a visit.

Im trying to thing of good pub food places but at the moment cant think of many.

The Chairmakers (Worlds End) has recently gone from country pub to wine bar style(ish) but the food is still good.
The Horse and Jockey (2 mins from Chairmakers) has improved loads with the new owners. Food is very good and staff very friendly. Good choice of beers too.

I agree re the portions at Cams - to be honest I find it hard to justify the prices, largely due to the fact it feels like a buffet restaurant again cos of the set up in there.

The Italian in Botley is a few doors down from the Dolphin - lovely cosey looking place and the food is absolutely fantastic. Highly recommended and they do some beautiful spicey dishes. Last week I had a advocado and cheese starter that was truly awesome and veal with breadcrumbs and a very spicey mashed potato with it. Lovely.

A cheap(ish) place to eat with huge portions, nice set up and a fair bit of parking out the front is the Bold Forester in Sarisbury Green. That would be a great place for a PH meet I reckon as the menu is varied and the portions very large. Only prob being that you do have to book a little in advance as since word has gone around its now got a top reputation.

I used to work in Whiteley and go there for lunch sometimes.

A place I can recommend NOT going is the George and Falcon along the A32. They do a carvery but the roast patotoes had run out and the rest of the veg tasted like it had been there a few days. The meet wasnt much better either. However, they could have been having a bad day.

Black Dog is just up the road from Wickham and used to do good food (and barmaids!).
Havent been for a while but it used to be the best place for a summers evening meal and beer.

Food at the Comorant near Portchester Castle (not far from your work Cuzza) does nice food too but may be quite at lunch time (Im guessing, never been at lunchtime before).

Big carpark there too. I was thinking that it would be a good place to meet for the TVRCC, especailly since you can drive in to the castle grounds for photo shoots.

I used to work at the chairmakers when I was 18 and used to be able to get there from home (Portchester) within one song (not "Mr Tambourine Man"!).
Excellent fun twisities.
Do you go up Downend Road and then take a left at Nelsons column?
Another route is to go up to the motorway roundabout and go straight over. Take a right at the T and follow the road all the way down. Quicker twisties that way too.

In wickham you have the Wickham Wine Bar and the Bistro up the other end.

Wine bar is excellent food and service although not cheap as is the Bistro, but each time we go there it seems to be filled with ex-Sea Commander's and Brigadiar Generals and even we feel a tad on the young side

Second on the left after the sweeping righthander over the motorway bridge.
You cant miss it. Its a big column with Nelson on the top!
Take that road (second left) and follow it straight down all the way. You'll start to recognise where you are the nearer you get to the Chairmakers.

BTW: Are there any good places in Titchfield? I notice lots of old pubs there but have yet to go in one.

Cheers - I'll give it a go.

Titchfield is nice and also on my list of places to move to. The only pub I've been in is the one next to the Co-op in the square. It has a very good Italian restaurant at the back too.
