Following this year's Le Mans, we (10 cars) are travelling down to the south of france via La Rochelle(?) and the Millhau Bridge.
We will have two overnighters on the way down with the first probably in La Rochelle. The second night would preferably be within a few hours of cannes/nice/monaco.
After a night or two on the coast we will take the route de napoleon north to grenoble and then on toward paris and home.

Does anyone have any route or hotel suggestions ?

Many, many thanks in anticipation.

.... Just a question why Cannes etc, the weather etc is just as good on the med from Montpellier throug to the Sapnish border and there are some truly amazing routes.

thanks 'jimi ... our target is monaco on the 19th which is pre organised.
so if we continue along the coast along the A9/A54 into Marseille, and then along the minor coast roads from Marseille to Monaco, we should be ok ?
I think next year (2008) we will look at travelling due south into Bordeaux, "do" the Pyrennes and then home via the Santander/Bilbao ferry.
With the above in mind, i think we will be looking at a hotel/chateaux between Montpellier and Toulon .... any ideas ?
Many, many thanks.

Check out the Route des Grandes Alpes - runs from Menton (just east of Monaco) to Thonon on Lake Geneva. I have posted a review of this elsewhere on this site. Top driving, fab scenery.

Our current plan is to return from the south via the Route d Napoleon 'twixt Cannes and Grenoble, and then head home via Paris, but i may be tempted to have a look at this ... thank you.

Have to agree with Sortie 10 I drove down to the south of France .....

grateful thanks for the input, unfortunately we will have to choose only one of the two suggested routes.
I'll offer your music selection to the lads .... biglaugh

Thanks jess ... excellent input.
I have checked out the map and will begin now to put something together.
Your suggestion will mean driving the Route de Napoleon on the way "down" which will leave us to return via the alpine passes.
thanks again,
david
